Bucktail baseball beats CMVT in eight innings, 14-13
KEVIN RAUCH/Special to the Sun-Gazette Bucktail senior Austin Mosher seen here from the mound in a senior night 2026 win that has the Bucks claiming a 14-13 win over Columbia Montour Vo-Tech, ending on a Teagan Stone bunt that scored Angelo Tarantella for the dramatic extra inning win.
FARWELL — Bucktail baseball celebrated its biggest win that it will see this season before the senior night game against CMVT even saw its first pitch.
Seniors Austin Mosher and Thomas Craft were honored along with Xander Shearer, at a moment that at the beginning of the season really knew if it would be possible. Shearer was involved in a motor vehicle accident that left him hospitalized until just a few weeks later ago and along with his Dad Keith and friend and classmate Colton Fleisher, took the trip from first base down the to home plate along with Austin and his mom Tracy Snyder, as well as Thomas with his parents Stephen and Jennifer.
As far as on the field action, the Bucks were coming off a loss in what was one of their roughest of the season and which included allowing a 17-run fourth inning to Sullivan County. So when Bucktail trailed 5-0 after the top of the second, the young, inexperienced team could have folded.
The Bucks, however, slowly started chipping away en route to a 14-13 win in eight innings. Teagan Stone led the team with four hits, followed by Angelo Tarantella who had Three and also turned a double play defensively from shortstop.
Mosher had started the game for Bucktail and was followed by Tyler Hillyer. Coach Casey Friese called upon his third option Otis Emerick as the Bucks trailed 13-9 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but rallied with four runs to send the game to extras.
Emerick allowed just two hits, but kept the Rams off the board, something that ultimately gave him the win from the mound and setting the table for a dramatic ending.
Tarantella singled and moved to third in part thanks to a bunt single from Levi Stevenson. Teagan Stone strode to the plate, already having three hits and the day, and also laid down a perfect bunt for a hit that served as a walk-off win for the Bucks.
Stone finished the day 4 for 5, scoring twice and picking up two RBIs. Myles Koser led the Rams attack with three hits, four RBIs and two runs.
The Bucks, now 3-9, will host Oswayo Valley (4-5) on Monday and CMVT (1-11) will host Benton on Monday as well.
