Dixon wins first limited late model race at Clinton
MILL HALL — George Dixon won his first feature limited late model feature on Friday night, in a thrilling race filled with excitement to the checkered flag. Cory Long of Selinsgrove won his second consecutive feature event in pro stock competition, while Mason McAndrew won the 270 micro sprints and Hunter Flook of Avis won the four cylinders.
Joe Lusk of Linden and Matt Cochran of Williamsport comprised the front row of the limited late model feature event. Cochran charged past Lusk as the duo raced hard into Turns 1 and 2. By the completion of lap five, Cochran was leading Lusk, JR Tonner of State College, sixth-place starter Dixson and Maddox Smith of Renovo.
The first caution flag waved on lap 14 involving Cody Lear and Devin Frey. Under the yellow, Cochran took his car to the pit area with mechanical issues. This gave Lusk the lead.
With the waving of the green flag, Lusk and JR Toner battled for the lead down the back stretch. The top two cars touched with Toner spinning on the back straight to bring out the caution once again. Lusk brought the field back to green once again with Dixon glued to his back bumper.
Lusk would lead lap 14, with Dixon taking the top spot on lap 15. Dixon was being chased by Lusk, Jennifer Lesher, Cody Lear and Toner. With five laps remaining, Lusk began to close in on Dixon and Lear overtook Lesher for the third spot. As each lap passed Lusk cut into Dixon’s lead as the top two became separated by only tenths of a second.
With the while flag waving, Lusk was all over Dixon trying to make a pass as they came out of Turn 4 side by side. Lusk’s car spun into the infield, as Dixon triumphed with the victory over Lear, Lesher, Smith and Toner.
Long claimed his second consecutive victory by leading flag to flag in the pro stock main event. Long held off the early challenges from frontrow starter Ronnie Ergott. By the completion of lap five, Long, Ergott, Marc Bitler, Jim Farley and AY Schilling were in the top five.
By lap 12, Long had started to encounter lapped traffic. Long led every lap for the win over Ergott, Bitler, Schilling and Larry Knight.
Jeffrey Weaver of Lock Haven led the opening laps of the 270 micro sprint feature event. On lap three, Weaver’s motor blew, bringing out the caution and giving the lead to Mason McAndrew. Fort Loudon’s Zachary Glass used the restart to pass McAndrew to lap four.
At the race’s midway point, Glass was leading McAndrew, defending track champion Mac Wert, Logan Hammaker and Jillian Maurer.
On the next circuit, McAndrew made a pass to regain the top position. McAndrew would hold off Glass to claim victory by .505 seconds. Maurer made a last lap pass to secure the third spot over Wert and Cory Stabley.
In four cylinder competition, Garrett Lucas led the first three laps. Avis’s Flook took the lead on lap four. The caution flag waved on lap eight for Renovo’s Richard Eldred.
