Hughesville girls, boys track teams sweep competition at multi-dual at Warrior Run
Warrior Run hosted Hughesville, Sullivan County, South Williamsport and Montgomery in a track and field meet on Wednesday afternoon as plenty of area athletes had success in the competition of all area teams.
Hughesville’s boys team beat Warrior Run (119-31), Sullivan (134-13), South Williamsport (115-25) and Montgomery (116-32) while South Williamsport beat Warrior Run (69-58), Montgomery (74-48) and Sullivan (88-28). Warrior Run earned a 65-36 win vs. Sullivan and beat Montgomery 48-41 while Montgomery beat Sullivan, 53-33.
On the girls side, Hughesville swept the competition by beating Sullivan County (128-17), Montgomery (109-32), Warrior Run (116-21) and South Williamsport (118-19) and Montgomery beat South Williamsport (92-35), Warrior Run (86-40) and Sullivan (86-35). South Williamsport beat Sullivan, 73-34, and Warrior Run beat South Williamsport (58-54) and Sullivan (55-44).
Hughesville went 1-2-3 in the girls 100 as Kylie Temple won in 13.12 followed by Casey Schultz in 13.14 and Sierra Dewire in third (13.54). For Temple, it was her second win of the day. Temple ran a 45.94 to win the 300 hurdles by just over two seconds against Montgoemry’s Selah Persing, who took second in 48.39.
Joining Temple as a two-event girls winner was her sister Katelyn. Katelyn Temple won the 400 in 1:00.15, coming just shy of breaking the 60-second mark. Montgomery’s Raegan Troxell took second in 1:16.18 and Montgomery’s Avery Heasley was third (1:17.80). She also won the 200 in 27.01 and won by less than a second over Sullivan County’s Addisyn Teplin (27.83).
In field events, Montgomery’s Anali Pick claimed two individual wins.
In the javelin, Pick won with a throw of 97 feet, 5 inches, winning with a toss of more than three feet as Hughesville’s Anna Easton (94-8) took second. Montgomery’s Alexis McKeta was third (93-7). Pick would also win the shot put by throwing 30-10, winning wtih a throw of just one inch better than Warrior Run’s Annabelle Pierce (30-9).
Hughesville’s Sadie Turnbow won the 100 hurdles in 17.13 and Montgomery’s Persing took second (17.55) while Brooke Knoebel was third (17.56). The Spartans’ Regan Sellers ran a 5:43.50 to win the 1,600 by six seconds over South Williamsport’s Kendall Smith (5:49.67).
Hughesville’s Evelynn Meckbach won the 800 in 2:29.20, winning by more than two seconds over Zoey Reese of Sullivan County (2:31.58). In the 3,200, Hughesville’s Emelia Wolfe ran a 14:28.84 to win by just 0.21 seconds over Sullivan County’s Paige Jordan in a tight race down to the wire.
Montgomery’s Mikaila Ganoe won the long jump by leaping 15-4 as Sullivan County’s Addisyn Templin took second (14-9) and Montgomery’s Brooke Knoebel took third (14-7). In the triple jump, Hughesville’s Kalia Hack jumped 32-3 to win by two feet. Hailey Ganoe of Montgomery took second (30-3). Shultz of Hughesville won the high jump by clearing 5-0 as Montgomery’s Mikaila Ganoe was second with a height of 4-10 and Arabelle Landis of Warrior Run took third (4-8).
South Williamsport’s Elyse Knoebel won the pole vault by clearing 7-6. Hughesville’s Jaeden Snyder took second (7-0). Pierce of Warrior Run finished first in the discus by throwing 103-7, the only competitor on the girls side to break 100 feet. Warrior Run’s Melody Gardiner was second (89-6).
Claiming two individual wins in boys competition was Hughesville’s Carter Gormont. The Spartan won the 100 in 11.51, followed by Sullivan’s Tucker Blasi (11.86) and Montgomery’s Jermain Morgan (12.832). He also won the 200 in 23.61, beating Morgan who took second in 24.40 and Sullivan County’s Dominic Marotti (24.94), who finished in third.
Brendan Wolfgang ran a 15.85 to win the 110 hurdles for Hughesville and teammate Kaviko Faulkner took second in 15.93. Warrior Run’s Gavin Cromley finished in third in 15.96.
South Williamsport’s Spencer Beatty took first in the 1,600 by running a time of 4:53.39, winning by just under two seconds as Hughesville’s Joseph Laubhacer took second (4:55.06).
In the 400, Hughesville’s Sam Haddon beat out teammate Patrick Stine as Haddon ran a 52.27 to win and Stine finished second in 53.89. Warrior Run’s Jesse Butler took third in 55.46. Faulkner won the 300 hurdles event in 42.63, winning by just 0.30 seconds over teammate Brendan Wolfgang. South’s Kyree Moy ran a 43.20 to take third in the event. Corbin Kirk of Hughesville won the 800 with a time of 2:13.55 while South Williamsport’s Spencer Beatty took second in 2:14.53.
Hughesville’s Wyatt Laubacher ran a 10:32.25 to win the 3,200 as Hughesville went 1-2-3 in the event. Carter Sherwood took second in 10:42.07 and Tristan Kurzawa finisihed third in 10:44.75.
Blasi of Sullivan County jumped 21-0 1/2 to win the long jump event. Hughesville’s Brendan Wolfgang jumped 18-10 1/2 to take second. James Smith of Hughesville won the triple jump by clearing 38-10, beating out Warrior Run’s Carter McCormick by just seven inches (38-3). Montgomery’s Jace Hanford cleared 5-10 to win the high jump and teammate Dylan Sherman took second (5-6), tied wtih Warrior Run’s Ethan Balzer.
In the pole vault, Hughesville’s Kellan Smith won with a height of 9-6. Hughesville’s Michael Fuller won the javelin with a toss of 145-5 as South Williamsport’s Jack Fortin finished second (139-0) and Warrior Run’s Mason Winter was third wtih a throw of 128-2.
Knoebel of Montgomery won the shot put by throwing 42-5 as teammate Abram Childs was second (35-4) and South Williamsport’s Gavin Lumbard was third (34-4). In the discus, Rylee Wilson was the only thrower to break 100 feet as he won with a toss of 113-9. Hughesville’s Jakob Charles took second (98-2).
