And just like that, we’re into the individual postseason for the District 4 boys tennis tournament. The season may seem like it just got underway, but on Saturday morning at Williamsport High School, the top 23 boys singles players in the district will meet to make a run to Monday’s semifinals.
The first three rounds will be played on Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. with the semifinals and finals tentatively scheduled for Monday at the Central PA Tennis Center with the semifinals and finals.
Three of last year’s semifinalists, including the district champion, are back in the field and looking to win. For top-seeded Ryder Fink of Jersey Shore, the Bulldog is looking to win a repeat District 4 championship this year after he beat Evan Anderson last spring for the title.
Fink has been playing outstanding all year and earlier this season, became the first Jersey Shore player to record 50 singles wins individually in boys tennis program history. As the top seed, Fink has a first-round bye into the second round. He’ll face either Galeton’s Corbin Basile or Montoursville’s Gio Catino.

RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Jersey Shore’s Ryder Fink competes against Loyalsock’s Colby Peters in the semifinal round of last spring’s District 4 singles tournament. Fink, who won the Bulldogs’ first singles title in program history, will look to repeat.
On the bottom half of the bracket, Montoursville’s Teli Bobotas is seeded seventh and also has a bye into the second round. Bobotas, who reached last year’s District 4 semifinals before losing to Loyalsock’s Evan Anderson, will face either North Penn-Liberty’s Ray Nickerson or Hughesville’s Kevin Bobak.
For Montoursville coach Shawn Gardner, he was hoping to see Catino and Bobotas reach the singles tournament this year and he got his wish as both are in the draw.
“(Teli Bobotas) should have some good experience and be able to move pretty far in the brackets I think,” Montoursville coach Shawn Gardner said. “I’m hoping he can get all the way to the semis for sure and even further. But he can play good, just sometimes it’s the mental side of the game and it’s a big factor.”
“And Gio? … I think he’ll be there to play another singles district tournament,” Gardner added.
The Warriors are looking to have their first singles district champion since David Brown did so in 2009, the same year the Warriors won the team title.

RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Montoursville coach Shawn Gardener meets with Teli Bobotas at the end of the semifinal round of PIAA District 4 Class AA boys tennis singles at the Central PA Tennis Club in South Williamsport on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
South Williamsport’s Carson Harris has a walk-over into the second round and will face Milton’s Hagen Hanselman, the eighth seed.
Central Columbia standout David Toscano, who has been playing well throughout the year, is seeded fifth and has a bye into the second round and will face either Danville’s Munjaal Mehta or Selinsgrove’s Lomond Rodgers.
Towanda’s Bayley Poll has won numerous matchups this year for the Black Knights in singles competition throughout the year and his success earned him the No. 4 seed in the tournament and he awaits the winner of Bloomsburg’s Marc-Alexi Dobbins and Wellsboro’s Mason Brill.
In the bottom half of the bracket, Danville standout David Sommer is the third seed and faces either Lewisburg’s Henry Heintzelman or Muncy’s Clynt Oden in the second round after Sommer earned a first-round bye.
Heintzelman, if he made a run to win it all, would bring Lewisburg a fifth singles title in the past six seasons. Eddie Monaco of Lewisburg won three straight from 2022-24 and Evan Cecchini won it all in 2021. There was no tournament in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Jersey Shore’s Ryder Fink competes against Loyalsock’s Evan Anderson during last year’s District 4 boys tennis singles tournament. Fink is hoping to make another run and win a repeat title. He’s seeded No. 1.
Sommer reached last year’s District 4 singles tournament semifinals and came up just shy to Loyalsock’s Colby Peters last spring, 6-1, 7-6. Sommer is hoping to make it three consecutive postseasons that the Ironmen have a semifinalist in the district singles tournament.
Sommer is hoping to be Danville’s first singles champion since this century.
Central Columbia’s Joey Pecora has a first-round matchup against Jersey Shore’s Ezra Paulhamus. The winner of that contest will advance into the second round to face sixth-seeded Luke Rothermel of Wellsboro. Rothermel has been playing well for the Green Hornets this season and will be a tough opponent for either Pecora or Paulhamus to defeat. If Pecora wins the title, he would be the first Blue Jay to claim district gold since John Duncan won in 2019.
The No. 2 seed this year is Loyalsock’s Elijah Lin, who has come up big throughout the year in matchups to help the Lancers excel as a team. So it’s not surprising to see him be rewarded as the No. 2 seed in this year’s bracket. Lin has a first-round bye and faces either Selinsgrove’s McAlister Defazio or South Williamsport’s Sawyer Fry, two talented players.
A win by Bobotas and Lin would pit the two against one another in the quarterfinals. Those two are no strangers to one another. Just three weeks ago they met up in Loyalsock’s 3-2 win over the Warriors. Lin earned a 6-3, 6-2 win in a competitive matchup between the two, so a rematch in the quarterfinals should be just as entertaining and competitive for fans in attendance to watch.
Loyalsock has not had a District 4 boys tennis singles champion since Mike Hayes in 2010.
All around, there’s talent throughout the singles field, including those who aren’t ranked, which should produce some fun matchups throughout the first three rounds.
