Karklin secures 410 sprint win at Port Royal Speedway

Jake Karklin was the 410 sprint car winner at Port Royal on Saturday night after the rain hit the speedway with three laps to go.

Karklin started alongside Derek Hauck for the 25 lap A-main event in 410 sprint car competition. Karklin got a little out of control on the start of the race which stacked up the field behind him and would bring out the red flag, what originally started with 24 cars would be whittled down to just 14 remaining once the field retook its shape. Karklin was the start of the accident, but he was able to keep his car going and would maintain his pole position.

Derek Hauck jumped out to the race lead, but Karklin began to reel Hauck in and a battle for the lead began to take shape. Hauck’s sprint car would lose power and slow to a stop on the front straightaway, brining out the caution flag and giving Karklin back the lead.

The final break would fall Karklin’s way for the night though, as rain would fall quickly onto the racing surface making the track unraceable and ultimately the night unsalvageable for the teams and the fans.

As there were only 3 laps remaining in the A-main, the race was deemed official and Karklin was ruled the night’s winner. The win is Karklin’s first win in a 410 sprint car at Port Royal Speedway that sees him taking the winner’s share of $5,000. Unfortunately, the limited late models and 305 sprint car A-main events were not able to be completed and will be made up when both series return on April 18. Port Royal Speedway will be back in competition on April 11 with the 410 Sprint Car Series racing for $6,000 to win and the super late models.

Karklin wasn’t the only first time winner last weekend. On Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway

Steven Snyder Jr. of Rising Sun, Md., drove Michael Heffner’s No. 27H to his first career sprint car win in feature action at the track and took home $5,500 for the victory in the Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint, 25-lap main event.

In 358 sprint action, Chase Gutshall of Middletown proved victorious for his second career win at the track and his first since August of 2024.

The first Yellow Breeches race of the season for the 410 sprint cars is on tap at Williams Grove Speedway coming up this Friday night at 7:30 pm.

Joining the 410s on the racing card will be the 358 sprints in the first 25 race of the young season. April 10 will also be ARCH Night at the oval.

Group time trials will be contested in practice laps to set the heat starting grids for the 410 sprint cars.

The 410s will go on to compete in a 25-lap, $5,000 to win, $500 to start main event.

The special event for the 358 sprints will pay the winner of the 25 feature a hefty $2,500 to win out of a total purse worth $11,000.

Also on Saturday night, the fans at Lincoln Speedway were treated to a thrilling night of racing on Saturday, featuring multiple lead changes, intense battles throughout the field, and a dramatic late-race pass for the win.

Danny Dietrich was steadily working his way forward. Utilizing the high side and navigating lapped traffic to his advantage, Dietrich surged into second and set his sights on Freddie Rahmer. The decisive moment came in the closing laps when Rahmer drifted high in turn four. Dietrich seized the opportunity, diving to the inside to take the lead. From there, Dietrich pulled away to secure the victory.

Lincoln Speedway delivered another thrilling chapter in its 358 Sprint Car competition, as Cody Fletcher completed a clean sweep of the season’s first two features–capping the night with a dramatic last-lap victory.
