Local roundup: Montgomery’s Miller records her 100th career hit in victory
PHOTO PROVIDED Montgomery’s Madisyn Miller recorded her 100th career hit in Montgomery’s 19-1 win against CMVT in five innings.
Madisyn Miller went 2 for 4 with a double, RBI and three runs scored and, in the process, earned her 100th career hit. Her efforts at the plate helped the Red Raiders defeat CMVT on the road in a five-inning rout, 19-1. Montgomery scored seven runs in the top of the seventh.
Arianna Snyder and Jenna Houseknecht combined in the circle with Snyder earning the win in three innings of work. Snyder struck out six and in two innings of work, Houseknecht didn’t allow a hit, struck out one and issued just two walks.
Brooke Dietrich went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and Maddie Hamm collected a double and triple.
Lewisburg suffered a 13-0, five-inning loss to Mifflinburg at home. The Wildcats scored seven in the third to pull away. Brinley Haile had Lewisburg’s only hit as she recorded a single, going 1 for 2.
Bucktail scored five runs in the first inning and the Bucks were off to the races with an 18-0 rout against Muncy on the road. The Bucks scored four in the fourth and eight in the fifth to blow the game wide open.
Muncy was held to just one single as Carrie Ditty pitched all five innings, scattering one hit with three walks and seven strikeouts.
Lola English went 4 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs and five runs scord. Eva Sockman was 3 for 5 with four RBIs, a double and a run scored and Kendall Wagner went 2 for 3 with two doubles while Kelsie Wagner was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Jersey Shore secured a 15-5 win against Shikellamy. The Bulldogs collected 11 hits, led by Amelia Thomas (3 for 4, two RBIs, run), Lynna Clark (2 for 4, RBI, 2 runs), Dani Miller (2 for 3, double, RBI, three runs) and Annika Clark (2 for 2, two RBIs).
Wellsboro collected 21 hits en route to an 18-6 win over NTL opponent Sayre in six innings. Wellsboro scored four runs in three different innings, including five in both the first and sixth.
Rylee Coolidge went 3 for 3 wtih a double, two RBIs and three runs scored and Paityn Biery went 3 for 4. Gena Fleming was 2 for 5 with a triple and Ady Frantz went 2 for 5 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Frantz struck out 11 in the circle for the Green Hornets.
• In high school baseball, Ayren Morgan went 2 for 3 with five RBIs to help Cowanesque Valley cruise past Wyalusing, 14-0, in five innings. Lucas Hamilton went 2 for 2 with a double and Danny Smith went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and tow runs scored.
Wellsboro exploded for 12 runs in the third inning to defeat Sayre, 12-0, in a three-inning contest. Cam Tennis went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs and Cameron Owlett went 2 for 3 with a triple, RBI and scored three runs.
• Williamsport fell to 2-5 after a tough 3-2 loss to Milton on the road in boys tennis.Spencer Kaar won at No. 2 singles for the Millionaires by beating Ricky Campos, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Joseph Hillman beat Adam Kerstetter, 6-3, 6-1.
Milton’s Hagen Hanselman beat Howard Chen at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3.
South Williamsport suffered a 5-0 loss to Danville to fall to 5-2. Carson Harris of South lost at No. 1 singles to Dacid Sommer, 6-1, 6-1 and at No. 2 singles, Sayer Fry suffered a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Munjaal Mehta.
Jersey Shore beat Central Mountain in a tennis doubleheader, 5-0 in both matches.
Ryder Fink posted back-to-back 6-0, 6-0 wins against Tim Brinker at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Ezra Paulhamus beat Brayden Spedding, 6-0, 6-0 in the first match and had a 6-1, 6-0 win over Spedding in the second match. Saul Hensler won at No. 3 singles in the first match vs. Ben Brinker, 6-0, 6-2, and then won the second match vs. Brinker, 6-1, 6-2.
• Freshman Tre Lesperance fired a 6-over-par 76 to finish third in a field of 48 golfers to lead the Lycoming College golf team, which finished sixth in a field of nine teams at the par-70, 6,261-yard Susquehanna Valley Country Club.
The Warriors finished with a 325, with three finishing in the top 25.
The Lock Haven women’s golf team continued its spring season at the Husky Spring Invitational at Frosty Valley Resort. The Bald Eagles took sixth place out of 10 teams, shooting a 389 on the 6,385-yard course.
Skylar Pentz led the Bald Eagles by shooting a 92. The score marks a Lock Haven career-best for Pentz as she shot a 43 on the front nine including a birdie on hole three. Hannah Kopac shot a 94 as she tied Pentz’s team-best 43 on the front nine with three pars.
• The Lycoming College women’s tennis team put together a complete performance, sweeping every set of a 7-0 non-conference victory over King’s College.
Lycoming (2-9) earned their first victory of the spring semester, starting the action strong with a pair of convincing wins over King’s (0-8) in doubles action. Senior Emma Kelchner and sophomore Sadie Stahl, a South Williamsport graduate, rolled to a 6-1 win in No. 1 doubles, while seniors Great Kimble, a South Williamsport graduate,and Cassandra Conner put together a 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles.
• The Lycoming College men’s tennis team swept doubles play and received a pair of strong singles performances to defeat King’s College, 5-2, in a non-conference match on Thursday.
Lycoming (3-6) earned their first victory of the spring semester, starting the day strong with a pair of 6-1 wins over King’s (1-7) in doubles action, courtesy of the No. 1 doubles team of senior Josh Neidert and sophomore Logan Hammond, a Loyalsock graduate, and then the same result from the No. 2 doubles pairing of senior Luke Taylor and sophomore Kayvan Shams, a South Williamsport graduate.
The Lock Haven women’s tennis team returned to action on Thursday afternoon by traveling to Shippensburg for a non-conference match.
Shippensburg won the match, 7-0.
Megan Ferris was very competitive at No. 1 singles, where she was edged out by Corinne Markovich, 6-4, 6-3.
Alaina Marchioni won six total games at No. 3 singles, falling to Yasmin De Meyer, 6-2, 6-4. Lock Haven moves to 2-7 overall and Shippensburg improved to 6-10.
