Local roundup: Montoursville’s Kirby records 200th career strikeout
Elijah Eck walloped a first inning grand slam, Logan Kirby threw his fifth straight gem and Montoursville clinched its 36th straight playoff berth Monday afternoon, defeating Jersey Shore, 8-3. Eck’s grand slam highlighted a seven run first inning and Kirby, allowed just two hits and an unearned run while striking out 12. Kirby, 5-0 this year, also collected his 200th career strikeout.
Eck’s grand slam was the only hit Jersey Shore allowed but the Warriors (10-2) took advantage of 11 walks. Mason Winter threw 6 1/3 innings of one-hit baseball for Jersey Shore and struck out four. Hunter Enders had two hits, Tucker Hanna doubled and Carson Watkins had a hit, RBI and run.
Kase Snyder threw five innings of one-hit baseball, striking out seven and leading Muncy to a 6-4 win against Sugar Valley. The Indians (8-4) won their fifth straight game as Graden Dohl closed with a dominant seventh inning for the save, striking out all three batters he faced. Muncy built a 6-0 lead after five innings with Jameson Barlow and Jackson Guardini both generating two hits. Guardini drove in two runs and Maddix Snyder went 1 for 1, walking and reaching base three times. Corbyn Gardner added a double.
Williamsport rallied from a two-run sixth inning deficit and Trey Damschroder shined in relief as it edged State College, 4-3. The Millionaires (12-1) won their 10th straight game, scoring three times in the sixth to take their first lead. Damschroder threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings of relief, striking out five and improving to 4-0. Brayden Wolfhope went 1 for 1 with a sacrifice fly and two RBIs. Zane Rogers added a hit, RBI and run and Lucas Naughton a hit and run as Williamsport overcame a late-game deficit for a second time in three games.
Jacob Baylor and Jahvon LaRosa both had hits in Loyalsock’s 14-0 loss at Southern Columbia. Brayden Andrews and Caden Hopper both had three hits for the Tigers who built a 13-0 third inning lead.
• Lydia Keener, Mackenzie Heyler and Mackenzie Litchard combined on a one-hit shutout, helping Warrior Run blank Southern Columbia, 12-0. The trio struck out 12 with each pitcher fanning at least three. Makenzie Heffner sparked the offense, going 2 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs. Skye Reigle was 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs and Maura Woland also had two hits with an RBI and two runs.
