Local roundup: Three-run sixth inning lifts Montoursville softball past Southern

A three-run sixth-inning helped Montoursville secure an exciting 5-3 win over Southern Columbia in softball on Thursday. The two were tied at 2-all entering the sixth inning.

Southern scored once in the top of the seventh, but the Warriors held on to secure the victory.

Kayleigh Sheleman went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI, Karsyn Stone was 1 for 3 with a run, Raigan Fredericks went 1 for 2 and Avery Stahl went 1 for 2 with a run scored and two RBIs. harlee Hagemeyer, Trinity Belle and Emma Ammerman all scored runs for the Warriors.

Southern Columbia was held to three hits, one of which was a triple by Leah Fenstermacher (1 for 2).

Hughesville scored six runs in the second inning to blow open a game and cruise to an 11-1, five-inning win over Warrior Run. Ashlynn Barlett went 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Addison Henninger went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs in addition to throwing five innings to secure the win in the circle. She struck out four.

Lyla Kinney and Kiana Peck both went 2 for 3 while Kinney had a double.

Lewisburg fell to Central Columbia in five innings, 11-1. The Blue Jays scored at least two runs in each of the first four innings. The Green Dragons were limited to just one hit as Morgan Shannon went 1 for 2 with a run scored and a double.

Loyalsock scored 13 runs in the first two innings to open the flood gates and defeat Bloomsburg in a rout in five innings, 17-1. Sophia Miller threw all five innings, scattering two singles and striking out eight.

Easton Waller (2 for 3, two RBIs, two runs), Mo Wertz (2 for 4, RBI, two runs), Lydia Kresock (2 for 2, double, two RBIs, three runs) and Kinsie Phillips (1 for 3, double, RBI, three runs) led the Lancers at the plate. Addi Barroway went 1 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Ashlyn Robinson improved to 4-0 after pitching four innings and then the seventh in Williamsport’s 11-6 win against Danville. The Millionaires led just 1-0 after the first inning before adding six in the bottom of the second. Robinson allowed just one run, five hits and a walk in her time in the circle.

Kinsley Cannode (2 for 2) and Emma Vollman (2 for 3) had multiple hits as Cannode had a home run, two RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored while Vollman had two stolen bases, scored three runs and drove in another. Ashlyn Robinson went 1 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Brenna Beck was 1 for 3 with two runs scored, a stolen base and RBI and both Bella Reddy and Zaelana Minor was 1 for 3.

Cannode’s home run was the first of her varsity career and it drove in two runs.

• Montoursville suffered a 9-6 loss to Mount Carmel. The Red Tornadoes scored eight runs in the third inning to pull away. Elijah Eck, Zack Neill, Brody Aldenderfer, Noah Kirby and Logan Kirby all had a hit for the Warriors.

• Jersey Shore blanked Selinsgrove, 5-0, in boys tennis action.

Ryder Fink earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against Lomond Rodgers while Ezra Paulhamus beat Joaquin Basu, 6-0, 6-2. The Bulldogs’ Saul Hensler beat Dylan Kopp in three sets at No. 3 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 11-9.

In doubles action, Abram Paulhamus and Dillon Harsanyi beat Nathan Lauver and John Ke, 6-1, 6-0. Luke Sarge and Dylan Hensler of Jersey Shore earned a 6-0, 6-2 win against Grant Renn and Noah Scholl.

South Williamsport improved to 4-0 with a tight 3-2 win against Central Mountain on the road. South Williamsport swept the doubles competition.

At No. 1 singles, Joey McCloskey of Central Mountain beat Carson Harris in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 and at No. 2 singles, Tim Brinker of Central Mountain beat Dylan Webb, 6-4, 6-2.

The Mounties’ Sawyer Fry earned a three-set win against Brayden Spedding, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.

In doubles competition, South Williamsport’s team of Levi Jackson and David Miller beat Gage Scanlan and Ben Brinker, 6-3, 6-2 and Cameron Stahl and Nate Miller won at No. 2 doubles beat Mason Temple and Gavin Edmonston, 6-3, 6-1.

North Penn-Liberty defeated Cowanesque Valley, 7-0. Ray Nickerson earned a 6-1, 6-1 win for Liberty at No. 1 singles, Silas Boiywo won at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Marshall Preston and at No. 4 singles, Jediel Ocasio-Vazquez beat Collin Hoke, 6-1, 6-2.

Andre Reed and Toby Nolt won at No. 1 doubles with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 win over Carter Hoke and Marshall Preston.
