Local roundup: Williamsport softball clinches share of second straight HAC-I title
Williamsport played a near perfect game and that performance helped it clinch a share of its second straight HAC-I championship. Ashlyn Robinson threw a four-inning two-hitter, Kate Solomon and Kinsley Cannode homered and five players collected multiple hits as Williamsport routed Selinsgrove, 17-0. The Millionaires (12-1, 8-0) can win the title outright with one victory in their last two league games.
The defense made no errors and Williamsport put the game away with 10 runs in the fourth. Solomon smashed her second grand slam in a week, Cannode hit her third home run and Bella Reddy went 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Robinson, Brenna Beck, Zaelana Minor and Payton Pennycoff all had two hits. Beck belted two doubles and drove in three runs, Robinson had three RBIs, Pennycoff two and Minor scored three times. Emma Vollman also scored three times and doubled. Mya Ritter reached twice and all nine Millionaires starters produced hits.
Easton Waller earned the win and finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, being one of three Loyalsock players who homered in a 13-3 win at Warrior Run. Waller went 4 for 4 with the home run, two doubles, two RBIs and five runs, while throwing four innings of two-hit softball and striking out six. Maddie Wertz (3 for 4) and Lydia Kresock (2 for 3) also homered. Kresock doubled and drove in four runs. Addi Barowy doubled and had two hits as did Shyla Fulp who drove in two runs. Sophia Miller added two hits. Mya Evans went 2 for 3 for Warrior Run and Ella Printzenhoff doubled.
Hughesville also featured a trio of home run hitters and Addison Henninger threw a three-hit shutout as it blanked Southern Columbia, 9-0. Ashlynn Barlett, Kenna Fisher and Lyla Kinney all went deep for the Spartans (8-4) with Barlett also doubling and driving in four runs. Fisher had two hits and Kinney hit her first varsity home run, a two-run shot. Fisher, a freshman, homered for the second time in a week, and Laurel Bauman added two hits and two runs. Henninger also struck out seven batters.
Dani Miller homered and drove in two runs, helping Jersey Shore clinch a Class AAAA playoff berth with a 5-4 win against Shikellamy. Lexi Frey threw a seven-hitter and struck out eight as Jersey Shore (10-4) made it 25 playoff appearances in 26 seasons during the 2000s. Amelia Thomas had a strong game, going 3 for 4 and scoring a run. Sophia Wrench went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Jersey Shore finished with 11 hits.
Montoursville erased a one-run seventh inning deficit, then erupted for seven runs in the ninth inning as it defeated Bloomsburg, 12-5 in nine innings. The Warriors (11-5) scored five times in the top of the seventh before Bloomsburg answered with four in the bottom half and forced extra innings. Julie Friel struck out 15 batters and Karsyn Stone and Laney Yonkin both hit three-run doubles. Emily George tripled and had two hits with two RBIs and Friel was 2 for 5 with an RBI double. Trinity Belle also doubled, drove in a run and scored a run.
Sugar Valley and Muncy got into a high-scoring affair which saw the Phoenix seucre a 24-13 win in five innings. Both Sugar Valley and Muncy had an inning where they scored 10 or more runs.
Sugar Valley jumped out to an 11-1 leadm after the first inning before Muncy scored 10 in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 18-12. However the Phoenix scored six more runs in the final two innings to prevent a Muncy rally.

• In a quad meet at Mount Carmel, Loyalsock’s boys and girls track teams competed. Team scores were not available.
In girls competition, Loyalsock senior Hazel Zajack and sophomore Zaryah Hawkins-Pegues both claimed two individual victories. Zajack won the 1,600 by finishing in 6:01.51, winning by almost 18 seconds. She was third in the 800 in 2:47.42. In the 3,200, Zajack ran a time of 13:31.28 to win by more than a minute.
In the discus, Hawkins-Pegues threw 106 feet, 1 inch to win, beating Mount Carmel’s Isabella Hudick by almost three feet. She also won the shot put by throwing 36-6, winning by more than three feet against Mount Carmel’s Nevaeh Katalinas.
Loyalsock saw Danny Dowell, a senior, run a 51.95 to win the 400 by roughly 0.30 seconds over Bloomsburg’s Michael Masteller. Another winner for the Lancers was Jeremiah Johnson, a senior who won the shot put with a throw of 52 feet, 10 inches, winning by more than nine feet.
Loyalsock’s Aiden Wetzler was second in the 800 in 2:12.74 and Bryson Rankinen was third in 2:16.17.
Ivan Baker of Loyalsock took third in the 100 in 11.57 and was a third-place finisher in the 200 in 23.67. Cashlin Rogers was second in the 1,600 wtih a time of 4:56.45 and Owen Peck ran a 5:03.10 for third. Rogers also took second in the 3,200 in 10:38.91.

• Emmet Crotty scored on the first possession of overtime to send fifth-seeded Colgate to a 6-5 overtime win over fourth-seeded Bucknell in the first round of the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Tournament on Tuesday night at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Bison finish the season 8-7 after returning to the postseason for the first time since 2022, while the Raiders move on to face No. 2 seed Loyola in the semifinals on Friday night at West Point.
It was a defensive struggle all night long, as both goalies backstopped outstanding defensive efforts, with takeaway after takeaway leading to the lowest-scoring game in Patriot League Tournament history. Bison senior Jaz Zanelli had one of the best games of his career with 11 saves, and Andrew Lehrman turned aside 16 shots for the Raiders, including a game-saving stop right before the final horn in regulation.
The two teams combined for only 11 goals on 71 shots, and there were 41 turnovers between the two sides, 25 of which were directly caused by a defender.
Neither team scored until the final minute of the first quarter. Zanelli’s seventh save of the period led to a Sean Berrigan goal off a feed from Will Hopkins with 43 seconds left. The Bison carried an extra-man opportunity over into the second quarter, and Luke Brunner cashed after only 17 seconds.
• United States national champion Evelyn Bliss added three more awards to her already-groaning trophy case by winning the Penn Relays Women’s College Individual of the Meet, Patriot League Outdoor Women’s Field Athlete of the Week and Bison of the Week after her record-breaking performance in the javelin throw at last weekend’s Penn Relays.
The Bison superstar smashed the facility and meet records at the historic competition en route to another event victory.
“Evie has been on a tear this year,” said throws coach Ryan Protzman. “Her best mark at each NCAA meet this year is good enough for a national leading mark. This level of consistency is building confidence as she chases a big goal this year. Snagging a gold watch is certainly icing on the cake.”
Bliss rolled to another event victory and her third facility and meet record of the 2026 season, despite shaky weather and a persistent wind. She shattered the old Penn Relays meet record of 185-2 set in 2025 by Irene Jepkemboi with her first toss of 188-0, accomplishing her day’s goal in the first round. The substantial crowd, filled with plenty of Bucknell fans and graduates, including 1976 NCAA Champion Thomas McLean, celebrated the feat.
Her next four throws, while all good enough to win the competition and the envy of the other participants, were below Bliss’ exemplary standards. She reset her outlook and started the customary slow clap for the final throw. The crowd responded and not a single hand was seen in refusal of motion. Bliss drew upon the extra reserve and uncorked her last chance. The javelin cut through the air and leaned right but stayed fair. Everyone awaited with pulsing hearts to hear the outcome.
The mark of 194-8 flashed on the scoreboard for a new facility record, removing three-time United States national champion Lynda Lipson-Blutreich’s 1997 distance of 58.56m (192-1) set 29 years ago to the day, from its proud perch. The throw won Bliss the customary Penn Relays gold watch and College Women’s Field Performance of the Day.
