Loyalsock boys, Hughesville girls have success in track and field quad-meet vs. Mifflinburg, Southern
Hughesville and Loyalsock competed in a quad meet featuring Southern Columbia and Mifflinburg. Loyalsock’s boys team beat Southern (107-30) and Mifflinburg (111-34) while Hughesville beat Mifflinburg (123-27). On the girls side, Loyalsock beat Southern (81-55) and Hughesville beat Mifflinburg (112-38). The Lancers lost to Mifflinburg, 87-55.
Loyalsock’s Danny Dowell won both the 100 and 200 to help the Lancers’ boys track and field team excel.
Dowell ran an 11.07 to win the 100 by 0.05 seconds over Hughesville’s Spencer Stine (11.12) and won the 200 in 22.49, beating Hughesville’s Sam Haddon (23.15).
Hughesville’s Kaviko Faulkner was a two-event winner as well. The Spartan won the 110 hurdles in 15.73 and the 300 hurdles in 40.52. Brendan Wolfgang of Hughesville took second in both events.
Winning the 400 was Loyalsock’s Ryan Lingg, who ran a 53.71 to win. Hughesville’s Patrick Stine won the 800 in 2:02.12. Joseph Laubacher of Hughesville ran a 4:56.47 to win the 1,600 and Owen Peck of Loyalsock won the 3,200 in 11:14.52.
Loyalsock’s Anton Cochran cleared 5 feet, 6 inches to win the high jump, winning by two inches over Taylor Zimmerman of Mifflinburg. Hughesville’s Royce Gardner cleared 10-0 to win the pole vault. In the long jump, Loyalsock’s Tyler Kennedy won with a leap of 17-6 as James Smith of Hughesville finished second (17-0). The two swapped places in the triple jump as Smith won (38-2 1/2) and Kennedy took second (36-9).
Jeremiah Johnson of Loyalsock had a throw of 50-11 1/2 to win the shot put. He also took third in the discus (118-11 1/2).
Hughesville senior Kylie Temple was a two-event winner. She won the girls 200 with a time of 25.83 and teammate Casey Schultz was third in 27.66. Loyalsock’s Alaina Dadzie took fourth in 28.00. In the 300 hurdles, Temple claimed her second win with a time of 44.53, winning by four seconds over teammate Sierra DeWire (48.56).
Also earning two individual wins was Loyalsock’s Zaryah Hawkins-Pegues. The Lancer won the shot put by throwing 36 feet, 4 inches and won the discus wtih a mark of 96-11. Loyalsock’s Gianna Steele took second in the discus (91-7) and third in the shot put (29-8 1/2).
Katelyn Temple broke a minute in the 400 with a time of 57.66, the only runner to crack 60 seconds, as she won by four seconds over teammate Emelia Wolfe (1:10.67). Wolfe would win the 800 in 2:22.16 as Hughesville went 1-2-3 in the event with Evelynn Meckbach finishing second in 2:26.75 and Leah Lehman running a 2:32.64 for third.
Hughesville’s Regan Sellers took first in the 1,600 by dropping almost half a second with a time of 5:40.34. Lehman took second in 5:41.53 and Sophia Poust of Hughesville was third in 5:42.26.
DeWire won the 100 hurdles in 17.40 and Grace Fortin of Hughesville won the 3,200 in 11:33.76.
Hughesville’s Katelyn Temple, DeWire, Schultz and Kylie Temple ran a 49.61 to win the 400 relay and DeWire, Katelyn Temple, Kylie Temple and Sydney Siperko ran a 4:08.85 to win the 1,600 relay.
In the 3,200 relay, Loyalsock’s team of Caroline Baker, Caroline Crawford, Hazel Zajack and Natalie Pearson won in 11:19.70.
Schultz cleared 5-2 to win the high jump to win. Hughesville’s Avery Puderbaugh was third in the long jump (14-5) and Hughesville’s Kalia Hack took third in the triple jump with a leap of 28-11. Mifflinburg’s Parice Shuck won the long (15-3 1/4) and triple jumps (33-7). Hack was a second-place finisher in the shot put (29-8 1/2).
