Mansfield softball suffers sweep against Shippensburg in home finale

MANSFIELD – The Mountaineer softball team (6-30, 3-25 PSAC East) hosted Shippensburg University, in a conference match up against the Raiders (30-14, 17-9 PSAC East) on Friday afternoon, with Mansfield dropping both.

In game one, the Raiders stepped on the gas in the top of the first. Off multiple extra base hits Shippensburg got out to an ealry 3-0 lead after the first inning.

The Mounties responded in the bottom of the first inning with a Sarah Shupp double to bring in Aubrey Reinert who started the Mountie offense to cut the lead to two.

Shippensburg took control with a long ball to regain the three run lead at 4-1 going into the bottom of the second inning.

The Mounties stalled in the bottom of the inning and the Raiders responded with four more runs to increase to lead to 8-1.

Shupp earned her second RBI of the contest with a fielders choice to score Reinert to cut the lead to 6 runs.

The Raiders kept their rhythm and closed out the game in five innings in a score of 11-2.

The Raiders kept their momentum from game one and transferred it to the first inning of game, jumping out to a 2-0 lead.

Mansfield kept the contest close holding the raiders to no runs in the top of the second inning. The Mounties loaded the bases and Emma Wonsick drove in the Mounties sole run.

Shippensburg never looked back shutting the Mansfield offense down and finishing the game with 9-1 lead to close out the game in five innnings.

The Mounties are set to travel to Bloomsburg, on Sunday at Bloomsburg, with first pitch taking place at 2 p.m.
