Montgomery’s Madisyn Miller scores 100th career run and has big day in Red Raiders’ win

PHOTO PROVIDED Montgomery's Madisyn Miller scored her 100th career run and had a monster day, going 3 for 3 with two home runs, six RBIs and three runs as Montgomery blanked Sugar Valley, 14-0 in three innings. Miller produced her 100th hit and 100th RBI earlier this season and now has 102 career runs.

Montgomery first baseman Madisyn Miller reached a remarkable career triple crown Friday afternoon.

What a way to do it, too.

Miller scored her 100th career run and had a monster day, going 3 for 3 with two home runs, six RBIs and three runs as Montgomery blanked Sugar Valley, 14-0 in three innings. Miller produced her 100th hit and 100th RBI earlier this season and now has 102 career runs. That performance also helped Montgomery (10-4) clinch its ninth straight playoff berth as Arianna Snyder and Jenna Houseknecht combined on a two-hitter. Houseknecht went 2 for 2 offensively and Zoe Furman was 3 for 3 with two doubles and two runs. Madie Hamm added two hits and two RBIs and Ava Hartman smashed a double.

Kenna Fisher went 2 for 3 with a double, but Towanda ace Leila Cobb threw a four-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts as Towanda blanked Hughesville, 3-0. Maddie Smith struck out and scattered four hits in eight innings for the Spartans (7-4).

• Muncy delivered under pressure and earned a big win, scoring three times in the top of the seventh as it surged past Northwest, 4-2. Graden Dohl closed out the victory by striking out the side and dominated in relief, earning the win and fanning seven in three innings. He and Corbyn Gardner combined on a four-hitter. Gardner also doubled and scored twice, while Jameson Barlow hit an RBI single and Nick Delany added a hit. Muncy (7-4) rallied in the seventh inning for a second time this season and has won three straight games.

Kane Meixel threw 5 1/3 strong innings and struck out seven, while also slamming a double as St. John Neumann defeated Sullivan County, 7-4. Meixel won his third decision and allowed three hits. Avery Taddeo closed the game on the mound and went 2 for 3 with an RBI and run. Maverick Dunkleberger hit an RBI single and Jahki Brister also had a hit, while Clark Bower and Kaden White both scored twice.

Chance Quimby and Andrew Walter combined on a three-hit shutout and 10 players collected 14 hits as South Williamsport blanked Canton, 17-0 in five innings. Quimby threw three innings and struck out five and Walter had six strikeouts in two. Walter also was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Quimby hit an RBI double. Kamdyn Bubb continued his strong week, going 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and Marc Molina and Jaymes Carpenter also had two hits with RBIs. Camden Hannan belted a three-run double for the Mounties (8-4).

Lucas Naughton belted a triple and double, going 2 for 2 with an RBI and three runs as Williamsport defeated Shikellamy, 9-6 and won its ninth straight game. Giovanni White and Zane Rogers also had three hits, Rogers smoking a double and driving in three runs. Seven players had hits, including Camron Spangler and Cole Deitrick who belted RBI doubles to help the Millionaires (11-1, 8-1) stay tied for first in the HAC-I. Ethan Chilson earned the win, throwing six quality innings and striking out four.

Nolan Polen collected three hits, including a double, and Hayden Kelley and Landon Lathan threw 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief as Jersey Shore rallied past Shamokin, 8-5. The Bulldogs scored six fifth inning runs, erasing a 5-2 deficit. Kelley earned his third win and Lathan his second, closing with a perfect seventh inning and two strikeouts. Pauling scored twice and Greyson Confair also doubled. Tucker Hanna was 2 for 2 and Mazden Lupton and Hunter Enders each had two RBIs.

James Keifer improved to 6-0 on the mound, throwing six brilliant innings of two-hit baseball and striking out 11 as Warrior Run defeated Hughesville, 7-2. The Defenders (12-2, 7-1 HAC-III) won their 10th straight game and every starter delivered a hit. Jackson Bowers and Landon Tillson had two each, Bowers going 2 for 3 and Tillson belting a double. Gage Webb threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for Hughesville (5-6) and Chip Fowler hit an RBI double.

Millville jumped out to a three-run lead through two innings and never trailed, defeating Montgomery, 7-1 and snapping the Red Raiders’ 10-game winning streak. Parker Bennett struck out nine in 4 1/3 innings but the Raiders (11-2) made five errors. Mason Bryson doubled and scored on Gage Furman’s RBI single in the fifth inning but Montgomery was limited to four hits.

• The Jersey Shore boys tennis team kept rolling as the Bulldogs dropped just four games combined to sweep Muncy in convincing fashion, 5-0, and pick up its 16th win in a row.

In singles, Ryder Fink and Ezra Paulhamus posted clean sweeps at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, with Saul Hensler winning by forfeit at No. 3

Doubles saw a bit more drama.

At No. 2 doubles, Dillon Harsanya and Dylan Hensler battled Muncy’s Bryce Eckard and Alex Puzio through a back-and-forth first set. They were ultimately able to edge out the set, 6-4, before carrying that momentum into a second-set sweep.

At No. 1 doubles, Abram Paulhamus and Luke Sarge made it three clean sweeps for Jersey Shore on the afternoon.
