Reeder’s home run leads Lycoming in series finale in baseball

MADISON, N.J. — Senior outfielder Nick Reeder, a Montoursville graduate, connected for a go-ahead three-run home run that ignited the Lycoming College baseball team in game two of a doubleheader, following a 6-5 defeat with an 8-6 victory over Drew University in Landmark Conference action on Saturday.

Lycoming (14-14, 7-8 Landmark) pounded out 13 hits as they bounced back to take the final game of the weekend at Drew (15-9, 7-6 Landmark).

The Warriors took the lead in the second contest in the third inning, when senior AJ Llorente, a Montoursville graduate, stroked an RBI single to give Lycoming a 1-0 lead.

Lycoming starter Jake Wilber started his day with four scoreless innings, but a pair of errors led to a pair of unearned runs scoring in the fifth, giving the Rangers a 2-1 advantage.

The Warriors, though, immediately regained control in the sixth. With two on and one out, Reeder hopped on a 1-1 offering and drove a three-run shot over the right-field fence for his first home run of the season, putting Lycoming in front 4-2.

One inning later, Reeder struck again, stroking an RBI single that brought in sophomore Kaden Shay, a South Williamsport graduate, with an error on the play also bringing senior Nick Hoheb home. Lycoming added two more in the eighth on back-to-back doubles from senior Brody Lindsey and junior Eric MacCluen, before Hoheb drove in the final tally on his fourth hit of the contest.

Drew scored four in the ninth, first with a pinch-hit solo home run by Nick Garbooshian, then scoring three more two-out runs. The Rangers put the tying run on base, but the Warriors were able to hang on.

Reeder had two hits, a home run, and four RBI, while Hoheb went 4-for-5 with an RBI and run scored. Wilber (4-2) turned in his second-straight eight-inning outing, allowing two runs (both unearned) on four hits over eight innings, with two walks and seven strikeouts in a 103-pitch performance.

In Saturday’s opener, each team scored one in the first, with MacCluen stroking an RBI single in the top of the frame, then Nick Donofrio answering for the Rangers. Drew then took a 3-1 lead in the second on a home run by Anthony Tetto.

The Warriors took the lead with a three-run third, as Reeder singled in a run, Llorente stroked an RBI double, and senior Josh Bottger legged out an RBI infield hit to put Lycoming in front 4-3.

The Rangers answered with a pair solo homers in the sixth, first a game-tying shot from Dylan Gallagher, then Tetto swatted a go-ahead shot two batters later, his second home run of the afternoon.

Drew stayed in front 5-4 until the Warriors tied the game in the ninth on a squeeze bunt.

Reeder stroked three hits, scored twice, and drove in one in the opener, while Shay added two hits and two RBI for the Warriors. Tetto homered twice and drove in three for Drew.

The Warriors will be back in action on Wednesday for a Landmark Conference matchup on the road against Susquehanna. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. from Harold Bollinger Field.
