Robertson’s walk-off homer leads LHU softball to split vs. Bloomsburg
LOCK HAVEN – Abby Robertson hit a walk off home run to lead the Lock Haven softball team to a 3-1 victory in game one over Bloomsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Lawrence Field. Bloomsburg edged Lock Haven 1-0 in game two.
Friday’s doubleheader was also the program’s Military Appreciation Day.
With the split, Lock Haven moves to 26-18 and 16-12 in conference play to remain in third place in the Eastern Division. Bloomsburg is now 22-16 overall and 12-12 in the East.
Game one featured a pitchers’ duel and Lock Haven ace Talia Ross was dominant through the first four innings, holding Bloom to just one hit and striking out a pair.
Bloomsburg, however, struck first with a solo homer in the fifth to take a 1-0 lead. Lock Haven evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth after Maci Brodzina singled to plate Blaire Balestrini.
Bloomsburg loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but Ross worked out of trouble unscathed to set up the dramtic finish.
Gianna Goodman drilled a two-out triple to right center and Robertson followed with a big fly to left field to walk it off for The Haven, 3-1.
Ross picked up her team-leading 16th victory in the circle as she went the distance and limited the Huskies to just one run on six hits.
Lock Haven finished with five hits from five different players.
In the nightcap, Bloomsburg opened the scoring with a solo run in the top of the first.
The Bald Eagles couldn’t push a run across through the next six innings, but game two starting pitcher Keiva Middleton settled in to shutout Bloomsburg the rest of the way to keep the comeback hopes alive.
Balestrini doubled with two outs in the seventh, but Bloomsburg left her stranded to seal the 1-0 victory and the split.
Middleton gave the Bald Eagles a quality start, going all seven innings and limiting the Huskies to one run on seven hits.
Lock Haven scattered four hits offensively.
The Bald Eagles hit the road for the final time in the regular season on Sunday at 1 p.m. (DH) to visit East Stroudsburg for a PSAC East twinbill.
