Shore’s Fink, Loyalsock’s Lin reach District 4 singles tournament semifinals
Jersey Shore’s Ryder Fink is one step closer to earning a repeat District 4 singles title. On Monday, Fink went 2-0 in his matches competed in to advance to the District 4 singles semifinals, which will be played on Wednesday afternoon.
Fink will face Bayley Poll of Towanda, the fourth-seed in the tournament while Danville’s David Sommer, the third seed, faces second-seeded Elijah Lin of Loyalsock in the other semifinal.
Those matches are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Central PA Tennis Center with the finals to be played shortly afterwards.
Fink, the tournament’s top seed, hada first-round bye and defeated Galeton’s Corbin Basile, 6-0, 6-0, in the second round. in the quarterfinals, Fink earned a 6-0, 6-0 win against South Williamsport’s Carson Harris to reach the semifinals.
Harris, who had a walkover into the second round, beat Milton’s Hagen Hanselman, 6-4, 6-3. The Black Panther tennis player was seeded eighth.
Central Columbia’s David Toscano, seeded fifth, beat Danville’s Munjaal Mehta, 6-3, 6-3 after Mehta won a three-set matchup over Selinsgrove’s Lomond Rodgers, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
Poll posted a 6-2, 6-2 win in the second round against Bloomsburg’s Marc-Alexi Dobbins and beat Toscano, 7-5, 7-6 in a very competitive match to reach the semifinals. In the first round, Dobbins beat Mason Brill of Wellsboro in three sets, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.
In the bottom half of the bracket, Lin received a bye into the second round and then posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Selinsgrove’s McAlister Defazio to reach the quarterfinals. The Lancer then earned a 6-2, 6-1 win against Montoursville senior Teli Bobotas, to reach the semifinals. Bobotas beat Hughesville’s Kevin Bobak, 6-2, 6-1, to reach the quarterfinals.
In the first round, Bobak earned a 6-0, 6-2 win against North Penn-Liberty’s Ray Nickerson. Defazio beat South Williamsport’s Sawyer Fry in the first round, 6-2, 6-0.
Sommer of Danville earned a trip to the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the quartefinals over Luke Rothermel of Wellsboro, seeded sixth, and beat Muncy’s Clynt Oden in the second round, 6-0, 6-1.
Oden advanced with a walkover and Rothermel beat Jersey Sore’s Ezra Paulhamus, 6-4, 6-4.
In the first round, Paulhamus earned a three-set thrilling win vs. Joey Pecora of Central Columbia, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
