South Williamsport baseball delivers late again and defeats Shikellamy

The higher the pressure, the happier South Williamsport seems.

It sure feels like that anyway as the Mounties again worked some late-game magic to win their latest thriller. Kamdyn Bubb hit a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning and Chance Quimby threw 1 1/3 hitless innings in relief as South edged Shikellamy, 5-4. The Mounties (7-4) did not flinch after Shikellamy scored three times in the seventh to force extra innings and won for the fourth time in their final at-bat. Cole Gerber threw 6 2/3 brilliant innings, scattering four hits and striking out 11. Bubb slammed a two-run first inning homer and Jaymes Carpenter an RBI double which put South ahead, 3-0. The Mounties have won four of their last five games, three coming in the final at-bat and two in extra innings.

Williamsport also rallied to win an exciting one-run game, scoring four times in the fifth inning, while turning a one-run deficit into an 11-10 win against Mifflinburg. Ethan Chilson retired the side in order and struck out two to close out the game in the seventh inning and earn the save while Nate Crowe earned the win. Lucas Naughton went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Deshaun White and Giovanni White both had two hits with White driving in a run and White scoring twice. Trey Damschroder, Wyatt Bair and Jaxson March all had hits and runs as Williamsport (10-1) won its eighth straight game.

Mason Bryson threw 3 1/3 innings of one-hit baseball, striking out six and adding two hits with two runs as Montgomery thumped Benton, 11-1 in five innings. The Red Raiders (11-1) won their 10th straight game as Bryson improved to 4-0. Parker Bennett went 3 for 3 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs, while Parker Persing, Trace Furman and Cooper Roman all had two hits and doubles. Persing and Roman each had two RBIs and Furman scored twice. Montgomery scored multiple runs in an inning four times and closed with five runs in the fifth.

Graden Dohl slammed a home run, drove in four runs and went 2 for 3, helping Muncy defeat CMVT, 9-3. The Indians (6-4) scored runs in all but one at-bat and won their third straight game as Kase Snyder threw four strong innings and struck out six to earn the victory. Kynton Fish provided two hits and two runs, while Nick Delany doubled. Muncy built a 4-0 third inning lead.

Cowanesque Valley erupted for 21 runs in the third and fourth innings, turning a six-run deficit into a 22-8 blowout win against Addison, New York in five innings. The Indians were down 7-1 before scoring 12 runs in the third inning and nine more in the fourth and improving to 13-1. Dave Hess sparked the offense, going 4 for 4 with six RBIs and four runs. Ayren Morgan, Lucas Hamilton and Gavin Churchill all were 1 for 2 with two RBIs. William Kies scored four times, and CV won its sixth straight game.

–All 10 Montoursville players who took the field produced hits as the Warriors routed Southern Columbia, 17-1 in four innings. The Warriors produced 13 hits, and Laney Yonkin threw a four-hitter. Julie Friel went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, while Danni Detato was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs. Kayleigh Sheleman also had two hits and two RBIs, while Emily George tripled and scored twice. Trinity Belle drove in two runs, and seven players had RBIs for the Warriors (9-5).

–Three matches went three sets as Loyalsock’s tennis team won a hard-fought match against South Williamsport, 4-1. Loyalsock’s doubles teams of Ian Bower and Daniel Taormina and Marco Blas and Luke Edmonds both won in three sets. South’s Dylan Webb took a long three-set match at No. 3 singles, taking the final one, 10-7. Elijah Win and Nathan DePrenda were straight-set singles winners for Loyalsock.
