Williamsport, CM athletes have success in dual in Mill Hall

MILL HALL — Central Mountain hosted Williamsport in a track and field dual meet on Thursday afternoon as both Wildcat and Millionaire athletes saw success through various events.

The Williamsport girls won, 117-33, while the Williamsport boys beat the Wildcats, 118-32. With the victories, Williamsport secured undefeated seasons for both boys and girls and swept the HAC-I title.

A number of athletes claimed multiple victories.

Nathaniel Woods was a two-event winner or Williamsport. The senior won the 100 with a time of 11.33 and was a winner in the 200 in 22.48.

The Millionaires went 1-2-3 in the 100 and 200. In the 100, Tevin Williams finishing second in 11.47 and both Ashton Thomas and Tyrin Sabb-Wilson tying for third in 11.92. In the 200, Williams took second in 23.00 and Alex Takach was third in 24.15.

Williamsport sophomore Maurice Baines claimed wins in both hurdles events. In the 110 hurdles, Baines ran a 16.46 to win and then ran a 42.43 in the 300 hurdles. Kenyon Harden of Williamsport took second in both events. In the 110 hurdles, Central Mountain’s Jonathan Nyman, a sophomore, took third in 19.17.

Williams earned a victory in the triple jump with a leap of 42-11 1/2, winning by more than seven feat. Kenyon Harden of Williamsport was in second (35-4) and Central Mountain freshman Christian Briggs cleared 35-2 1/2 for third.

On the girls side, Williamsport senior Isabelle Morrow won two individual events as well.

The Millionaire cleared 5-4 to win the high jump competition as she was the only competitor to go above 5-0. Williamsport’s Aletha Fletcher and Central Mountain’s Sofia Kelly tied for second place by both clearing 4-10.

In the long jump, Morrow had a leap of 17-4 to win by almost two feet as Kaylin Mazzante was second (15-7).

On the boys side, Nyseim Williams ran a 53.97 to win the 400 while Brysen Thornton ran a 2:08.72 to claim a victory in the 800. Connor Hofstrom won the 1,600 in 4:56.32. Lauger Waldman was a second-place finisher in both the 800 (2:09.57) and the 1,600 (4:56.79). Central Mountain’s Damien Winner, a senior, ran a 5:04.72 for third in the 1,600.

Central Mountain went 1-2 in the 3,200 as Will Stout, a freshman, won in 12:19.52 and teammate Holden Long, a sophomore, ran 12:46.23. Steven Eckman of Williamsport was a third-place finisher (12:52.17).

Williamsport’s Ashton Thomas and Central Mountain’s Josiah Allert both cleared 5-6 to tie for first in the high jump competition. Central Mountain senior Keron Yerger was third with a height of 5-2.

Central Mountain senior Dylan Bechdel cleared 18-9 to win the long jump competition by four inches, beating out Williamsport’s Kenyon Harden and Central Mountain’s Brayden Stahl, who tied for second.

In the pole vault competition, Jahki Burget of Williamsport won with a height of 9-0. In the discus, Cordoza Minor of Williamsport had a throw of 139-11 to win. Tyler Sengewald of Williamsport was second (107-9) and Central Mountain senior Josiah Allert threw 106-10 for third place. Allert would earn an individual win in the shot put with a throw of 37-11.

Central Mountain had a sweep in the javelin competition. Maxwell Finle won with a throw of 158-4 1/2, Ethan Shetler took second with a throw of 135-0 and in third, William Kellander had a throw of 134-5 1/2.

In girls competition, Geiani Whaley of Williamsport, a junior, ran a 12.80 to win the 100 and Makayla Cerami took second in 12.90. Williamsport’s Desiree Ware, a third-place finisher in the 100, won the 200 in 27.77, winning by nearly a second over teammate Trinasia Price (28.72). Central Mountain freshman Zaylie Warren took third in 29.49.

Central Mountain’s Grace Keohane won the 400 in 1:05.20, winning by almost three seconds over teammate Abigail Winslow (1:08.01). Williamsport’s Cooper Matthews took third in 1:08.24.

Mila Veldhuis was a winner in the 800 with a time of 2:23.02 and Ava Nichols ran a 2:40.32 to take second while Central Mountain’s Cora Svec was third in 2:42.53.

Williamsport’s Loisa Hofstrom, a freshman, on the 1,600 in 5:48.93 while central Mountain freshman Lucy Walker took second in 6:13.72. In the 3,200, Clara Wade of Williamsport ran a 12:54.87 and teammate Faith Hale took second in 13:05.42. Central Mountain’s Emma Wolfe was a third-place finisher in 14:45.51.

Central Mountain sophomore Macia Owens won the 100 hurdles by running a time of 16.03, winning by almost half a second over Central Mountain senior Sarah Hall (16.51). Mah’ogny Bell-Smalls took third for Williamsport in 16.65. In the 300 hurdles, Owens took second as she was beaten out by Williamsport junior Saniyah Bailey (49.05). Owens ran a 50.04 and Williamsport’s Kaylin MAzzante ran 50.56 to take third.

In the triple jump, Ayanna Barbee took first with a leap of 33-7. Central Mountain freshman Zaylie Warren took second by clearing 30-11 1/2. Isabella Marnon won the pole vault for Williamsport with a height of 7-6.

Williamsport’s Brenlynne Rogers, a freshman, threw 93-11 to win the discus while Taitum Zarzyczny took second with a throw of 85-10.

In the javelin, Dayanna Baines, a senior, broke 100 feet with a throw of 107-5. Aletha Fletcher of Williamsport was second in 89-5 and Central Mountain’s Lane Walker, a freshman, finished third with a mark of 87-0.

Fletcher won the shot put with a mark of 33-9, beating out teammate Zarzyczny (29-4 1/2) and Abryana Woodford (29-0).
