CM’s Allert takes silver at District 6 track championships in Class AAA high jump

ALTOONA –Central Mountain’s Josiah Allert and Sofia Kelly turned in solid performances at the District 6 track and field championships at Mansion Park.

Allert took home a silver medal in the boys high jump, securing the highest finish at districts for a Central Mountain athlete. He cleared 5 feet, 5 inches for silver, just two inches behind Somerset’s Trae Bhullar, who won with a height of 5-7 to head to states.

For Kelly, she placed fourth in the Class AAA high jump by clearing 4 feet, 9 inches. She was just four inches behind district champion Josie Younkin of State College, who won with a height of 5-3. Kelly was also a ninth-place finisher a day prior in the triple jump (32-10 3/4).

Central Mountain standouts Macia Owens and Sarah Hall finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100 hurdles. Owens ran a 16.34 for fourth and Hall was right behind her in 16.53 for fifth. Altoona’s Hannah Owulade won in 15.01.

That duo also took sixth and seventh in the 300 hurdles finals. Owens took sixth in 50.06 while Hall finished in seventh place in 51.50. Ajaycia Alexander of Altoona set a PR to win in 45.90.

Grace Keohane was a sixth-place finisher in the 800 as she ran a 2:25.01. The top 3 finishers in the event all set PRs in Evelyn Younkin of State College (2:13.95), Libby Marteeny of Somerset (2:15.92) and Ashlyn Noce of Altoona (2:17.38).

Jacob Nyman of Central Mountain was a sixth-place finisher in the 110 hurdles in 17.67 while teammate Jonathan Nyman took seventh in 18.09. Hollidaysburg’s Braelyn Ross won in 15.30. Nyman would be an eighth-place finisher in the 300 hurdles in 45.19. Ross won that evnet as well, finishing in 39.48 as he was the only runner to break 40 seconds.

Central Mountain’s Wyatt Heeman finished the 400 in 53.47 for sixth place as State College’s Owen Viglione ran a 50.72 for first place.

Boys distance runner Damien Winner finished 10th with a time of 10:30.87. The top three runners in the event are all state bound in State College’s Luke Bradbury (9:10.70), State College’s Theo Opperman (9:12.67) and Mifflin County’s Reese Cubbison (9;20.83).

Brayden Stahl of Central Mountain finished the Class AAA long jump with a leap of 19-10 1/2, good enough for seventh place. In the boys javelin, Central Mountain’s Ethan Shetler threw 139-9 for seventh place.

Sophia Hoy of Central Mountain finished 11th in the girls Class AAA long jump (15-3 1/4) and Lane Walker was 13th (80-10) in the girls javelin.

Central Mountain’s boys 3,200 relay team finished fourth in 9:16.14 in Class AAA competition as Mifflin County’s foursome broke the District 6 and Mansion Park records with a time of 7:43.37.

Central Mountain’s girls 400 relay team took sixth in 52.78 as Altoona’s team won in 48.87 and set a PR in the process. Central Mountain’s boys 400 relay team ran a 46.71 to finish in sixth place as Hollidaysburg won in 42.45, setting a state standard to qualify and PR.
