LEWISTOWN – A day after knocking off former PIAA champion Hazelton on Monday, the Central Mountain baseball team was back in action less than 24 hours later. In a battle of postseason-bound teams, the Wildcats went up against Mifflin County in a tough non-league battle Tuesday.
In the end, the Wildcats came out victorious posting a 6-3 victory.
Hurler Dane Hanna picked up the win for Central Mountain as he defeated Huskies pitcher Parker Crownover. Hanna allowed only one run on four hits through his time on the mound.
“With our pitcher throwing strikes, getting his secondary pitches over and having command of his pitches, that helped us keep a solid team from putting up runs like they can. And our defense played behind him today,” Central Mountain coach Mike Kramer said when talking about winning pitcher Dane Hanna.
“So, I think that was key to our being in control. We had quality at bats. I know Coach Hopple was working through different pitchers. I’m not sure what it was, but we had to be ready to attack whoever was in there.”

After a scoreless first inning, Central Mountain struck first, posting two runs in the top of the second.
With one out, Darius Shade singled past the Mifflin County shortstop. Austin Frank joined Shade on the base paths as he also singled to left. Teammate Hayes Miller loaded things up on a walk. And Yafran Sanchez reached on a Huskie error, scoring both Shade and Frank and making it 2-0.
After holding the Huskies at bay in the second, the Wildcats added another run in the third.
Blake Walker got the inning started for Central Mountain as he doubled. Watt Probst’s single brought in Walker, upping the Wildcat lead to three.
Mifflin County tried to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth.

Still trailing 3-0, Thad Gerwick led things off in the inning with a single. He reached second on a passed ball.
Gerwick moved up a base on a fielder’s choice and was stranded at third.
In the fifth, the Huskies finally reached the scoreboard. Joel Beamer singled home Ezra Beamer, making it a 3-1 deficit.
However, the Wildcats added three more runs in the sixth and seventh while holding off a potential Mifflin County rally to take home the 6-3 victory.
“We’re trying to get our playoff groove gone, because we’ve been struggling to have it consistently going,” said Kramer. “So today was a good feeling that we had a lot of consistency throughout the whole game. And add that to yesterday’s.”
