Kegler’s Korner: Furman bowls an 815 series; Edkin a 705

With the season winding down, many leagues are done bowling, but there were still some noteworthy scores from those leagues still competing. Top male bowler of the week was Rod Furman who propelled his team to the championship in the playoff of the Brenda Welshans Memorial League with an 815 series. Meanwhile, Alicia Edkin captured top female honors by posting a 705 series in the Monday Night Classic League.

That same league saw Tim Bailey and Roy Vanemon each fire a 300 game, while Bret York fell one pin short of perfection with a 299 in the Thursday Night Men’s League, where Rebekah Reamsnyder’s 245 proved to be the top female game for the week.

In her last game of the night, and of the season in the Wednesday Ladies League, Amanda Knight broke the 200 mark for the first time in her career by using nine strikes to bowl a 228 game, besting her average by 111 pins. Eclipsing his average by 107 pins was Louie Santalucia Jr. who shot a 298 in the Sunday Night Social League.

Did you know?

Since Sue Delany became the first local woman to bowl an 800 series in 1994, as reported in last week’s article, seven other local women have bowled at least one 800 series? It brings the total female 800 series to 11 with Kim Franquet posting three of those series, the most ever by a local female.

The latest female 800 series was bowled by Karla Anderson in 2017.

This week we remember 1993 local association Hall of Fame inductee Ronald Savage, who began his bowling career in 1955 at the Midway Lanes in Danville which he later owned and operated for many years. Starting in 1966, Savage split his bowling time between the Midway Lanes and lanes within the jurisdiction of the Lycoming County Bowling Association. He was named the local association’s Most Valuable Bowler for the 1967-68 season, after winning the seasonal high average award for both the 1967 and 1968 seasons with a 202 and 201 average respectively.

He was named to the Association All-Star Team seven times between 1972 and 1980. With a career high average of 225 during the 1984-85 season, Savage finished at least 13 seasons with one of the top five averages in the local association. He also won three association high seasonal series awards in the 1970s, as well as the 1974 Bowler of the Year Tournament.

Hope to see you on the lanes.
