MILL HALL — On a night in central Pennsylvania, when most racetracks were forced to cancel due to rain, the Clinton County Speedway managed to host it weekly racing program featuring the limited late models. Fans who came out to the Friday night race were treated to a trilling finish as limited late model driver Cody Lear thrilled the crowd with a last-lap turn slide job that allowed him to win by mere inches over fellow competitor Matt Cochran of Williamsport.

Cory Long was the winner in the pro stock feature event, Mac Wert won the 270 micros and Jimmy Moyer won the SCDRA four-cylinder feature race.

Cody Lear and Jennifer Lesher started on the front row of the 25-lap limited late model feature event. Lear led the first circuit but relinquished the lead to defending track champion Andrew Yoder. Yoder led Lear, Bradley Benton, Cochran and Joe Lusk of Linden until lap six when Lusk caused a caution in Turn 2.

With the restart, Lear was able to power past Yoder to regain the top position. A lap-eight caution occurred when Tom Viello’s car had mechanical issues, ending his night and forcing him to take his car to the pit area.

By the tenth circuit, Lear continued to lead as Matt Cochran passed Yoder for the runner up position, Benton was running fourth and Lesher rounded out the top five. The race easily could have been won by Lear, Cochran or Yoder as the top three remained in contention for the win. With five laps remaining, Lear held a slim margin over Cochran, Yoder.

With two laps remaining Cochran made a pass for the lead getting around Lear in Turns 1 and 2. Cochran would lead lap 24 as the duo raced through Turns 1 and 2. As they approached Turns 3 and 4, Lear got a run down the back stretch into Turn 3 and slid under Cochran, the two traded paint racing to the finish line. Lear took the win by .029 seconds over Cochran. Yoder finished third, Maddox Smith of Renovo finished fourth and Keith Walls completed the top five.

“He left the bottom open going into Turn 3,” said Lear in victory lane. “I went it full throttle and never lifted to make the pass.”

It was Lear’s first win of the season at the one-third mile oval.

Mac Bitler of Milton took the lead at the drop of the green flag for the start of the pro stock feature event. Fourth-place starter Cory Long of Selinsgrove powered past Bitler to take the lead by the completion of lap three. With five laps complete, Long was leading Bitler, AY Schilling of Linden, Louis Delisel and Larry Knight of Williamsport. Ron Ergott brought out the caution when he spun on the back stretch on lap eight.

Long continued to count down the laps and extended his lead by 3.7 seconds. Long earned his fourth win of the season over Bitler, Schilling, Larry Night and Kyler Stahl of Watsontown.

Andrew Petock of Bloomsburg and Jillian Maurer of Elysburg brought the field of 270 micro sprints to life for the start of their feature event. Maurer took the early advantage and would lead the first six laps. Mac Wert of Milton who started third, would take the lead by the completion of the seventh lap, shuffling Maurer to second followed by Cory Stabley, Logan Hammaker of Williamsport and Garrison Zook of Middleburg.

On lap eight, Stabley would move into the second spot and try to chase down Wert. Mason McAndrew who won the previous week and started fifth, broke into the top three on lap 12. The leaders began to encounter lapped traffic, which allowed Stabley to challenge Wert right to the finish of the race. After Wert took the checkered flag, his steering broke in Turn 2 forcing him to flip out over the back stretch.

Wert was OK and walked to victory lane for the interview while his car was towed to the front stretch. Stabley finished second followed by McAndrew, Maurer and Hammaker.

A full field of four cylinder took to the speedway for the start of the feature event with Ken Smith of Beech Creek and Cody Maines of Jersey Shore on the front row. Smith took the lead at the drop of the green flag with third place starter Zak Kline of Mill Hall on his back bumper. Jimmy Moyer of Lewistown passed Kline for the second position and would pass Smith two laps later to take the lead by lap four. Moyer led, Kline, Allen Robinson, Matthew Duvall and Tiana Anderson.

Jim Ogden, who started ninth, worked his way up to third by the midway point of the race. Ogden would challenge Kline and eventually take the runner up postion by lap 12. With two laps remaining, Moyer was encountering lapped traffic with Ogden, Kline, Robinson and Matt Weaver running in the top five. Moyer would cross the line first to earn the win over Robinson, Kline, Weaver and Larry Beachel.
