Local roundup: Hughesville softball cruises past Shamokin

Eight Hughesville players pounded out 21 hits and the Spartans won their fourth straight game, routing Shamokin, 15-4. Maddie Smith and Addy Knight both produced four hits, Smith going 4 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and four runs. Knight was 4 for 5 with a double, three RBIs and four runs. Laurel Bauman and Kenna Fisher both generated three hits and doubles, with Bauman driving in three runs and Fisher scoring three times. Winning pitcher Addison Henninger, Ashlynn Barlett and Lyla Kinney all had two hits with Barlett and Kinney belting doubles and combining for three RBIs. Avery Bergey doubled for a second straight game and Hughesville scored five times in the fourth inning to move ahead, 9-1.

Freshman Annabelle Fry threw a seven-hit gem on 81 pitches and was backed by spectacular defense as South Williamsport continued its late-season charge, defeating Shikellamy, 4-2. The Mounties (5-10) won their fourth straight game and fifth in six tries as South made no errors with Emma McLaughlin and Mikaiya Hills shining in the middle of the infield and combining for nine putouts and six assists. Center fielder Maddie Pinkerton made four running catches as well. McLaughlin hit a go-ahead, two-run triple as part of a four-run third inning rally. Pinkerton added a hit and run and Fry closed the game with four straight scoreless innings.

North Penn-Liberty earned a mercy-rule victory over Northeast Bradford on the road, 11-0, in six innings. North Penn-Liberty scored at least two runs in four innings, including three in both the second and sixth innings.

Madison Smitih went 2 for 4 with a double and triple while Julia Kaczynski had a 3 for 4 performance with two doubles and a team-high five RBIs for Liberty. The Mounties also saw Haley Litzelman (1 for 4, two RBIs, run) belt a home run.

Elyna Booth threw a complete game with an impressive 13 strikeouts and allowed just one single and no walks.

• Mason Bryson improved to 6-0, throwing six terrific innings of four-hit baseball and striking out 11 while leading Montgomery to a 9-1 win at Sugar Valley. Bryson was one of nine Red Raiders who produced hits, going 1 for 2 with a run. Freshman Gage Furman closed the game with two strikeouts in the seventh inning and sparked the offense, going 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run. Briar Persing and Trace Furman hit doubles and Lincoln Miller was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs as Montgomery improved to 14-3.

Noah Kirby went 2 for 2 with a double and five RBIs, while Elijah Eck threw a three-inning shutout as Montoursville blanked Milton, 17-0. Eck threw a one-hitter and fanned two, also going 1 for 1 with an RBI and two runs. Jonah Heddings was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Montoursville (13-3) scored 13 first inning runs. Logan Kirby and Zack Neill both went 1 for 1 with five combined runs and Gabe Moser was 1 for 2 with an RBI and two runs.

Carter Rhinehart collected three hits and Nolen Pauling homered, but Jersey Shore watched a four-run lead turn into an 11-4 loss at Selinsgrove. The Seals scored 11 straight runs from the fourth through sixth innings after falling behind 4-0. Mazden Lupton had two hits and an RBI for Jersey Shore (6-10), while Hunter Enders added a hit.

Brody Bruce and Gavin Churchill both delivered three hits and combined for five RBIs as Cowanesque Valley rallied from an early two-run deficit and defeated Towanda, 11-4. The Indians (16-2) overcame a two-run deficit for a second straight day and collected 13 hits. Winning pitcher Dave Hess and Lucas Hamilton both had two with Hamilton scoring three times. Hess added an RBI and Ayren Morgan drove in two runs. Levi Stahli earned a save after entering in a 7-4 game and Churchill drove in three runs.
