Local roundup: Montoursville’s Kayleigh Sheleman records 100th career hit in win vs. Shamokin

PHOTO PROVIDED Montoursville’s Kayleigh Sheleman recorded her 100th career hit during Friday’s game against Shamokin on the road. Sheleman went 2 for 2 in the Warriors’ 6-3 win vs. Shamokin.

Kayleigh Sheleman already had joined one exclusive club earlier this season and now is part of an even more prestigious one. The Montoursville third baseman delivered her 100th career hit, going 2 for 2 with a triple and two RBIs in Friday’s 6-3 win at Shamokin. Sheleman now has reached both 100 hits and 100 RBIs.

Fellow senior Julie Friel threw a three-hitter and struck out 14 and the Warriors (14-6) won their third straight game. Emily George added two hits, a double and three runs. Trinity Belle hit an RBI double and Laney Yonkin and Karsyn Stone also had hits and RBIs. Montoursville will be seeded either No. 6 or 5 in the 3A district field and play at Towanda or Hughesville.

A day after hitting a walk-off single against North Penn-Liberty, Addison Henninger threw a one-hit shutout and added a triple, helping Hughesville blank Bloomsburg, 10-0 in five innings. Maddie Smith, Ashlynn Barlett and Kenna Fisher also tripled for the Spartans (14-5) while Smith and Addy Knight had doubles. Lyla Kinney and Olivia Kile both had two hits and RBIs, while Kiana Peck and Laurel Bauman added hits and RBIs. Hughesville will host either North Penn-Liberty or Montoursville in next week’s district quarterfinals.

Ava Hartman threw a five-hit shutout and Zoe Furman went 3 for 3 with three RBIs as Montgomery closed its regular season with a 13-0 win against Canton in five innings. Furman doubled and drove in three runs, while Madisyn Miller, Ramona Kroll and Arianna Snyder all had two hits. Miller tripled and drove in two runs; Kroll doubled and scored three times and Snyder also scored three times. Amelia Shrimp singled and added four RBIs. Addison Greger drove in two runs and Hartman singled, while scoring twice. Montgomery (14-6) will be the No. 2 seed and play Cowanesque Valley in the District 4 Class A semifinals.

Lewisburg defeated Millville in five innings, 15-1, thanks to an 11-run third-inning outburst. Meg Mitchell went 2 for 2 with a double and scored four runs. Siani Turner went 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, and both Brinley Haile (2 for 3, RBI, run) and Josie Gutkowski (2 for 3, two RBIs, walk, run) had two singles apiece.

• Trey Damschroder and LJ Hill combined on a six-hitter, while Lucas Naughton, Deshaun White and Giovanni White all generated two hits as Williamsport defeated perennial District 2 power Dallas, 8-2. The Millionaires (19-1) completed the best regular season by a Millionaires team in the 2000s, winning their final 17 games.

Damschroder improved to 7-0, closing with five scoreless innings before Hill worked a hitless seventh and fanned two to seal victory. Damschroder also struck out eight and doubled, while scoring twice. Deshaun and Giovanni White both drove in two runs and Zane Rogers added a hit and an RBI. Williamsport earned the top seed for the District 2-4 Class 6A playoffs and will host a semifinal next Friday against either Wilkes-Barre or Scranton.

• After leading the NCAA in goals in women’s lacrosse, senior Riley Block was named Lycoming College’s Most Outstanding Female Athlete at the Senior Athlete Celebration and Athletics Recognition Banquet.

The dual-sport athlete was first team All-Landmark Conference in lacrosse and Second Team All-Landmark Conference in soccer while setting the program record with 15 wins in a season.

In lacrosse, Block averaged 6.00 goals per game, the top mark across all NCAA divisions, as she posted four 10-or-more goal performances during the season, including scoring a school and Landmark Conference record 14 in a 20-10 win over Immaculata. She is third in Division III with 7.00 points per game and she finished the season 20th in NCAA Division III history with 292 career goals. Block also finished third in the Landmark Conference in draw controls (5.31). Block finished 2026 with 112 points off 96 goals and 16 assists this year, just one point shy of Meghenn Jackson ’16’s school record mark of 113 points. However, she did finish her career with Lycoming records for goals in a game (14), season (96) and career (292) and points in a game (17) and career (349).

Block led the conference in goals each of the last two years, helping her earn a pair of First Team All-Landmark Conference accolades after she was a second-team pick in 2024 and an Honorable Mention All-MAC Freedom selection in 2023.

In soccer, the senior finished second in the Landmark Conference in save percentage (.835), allowing 1.05 goals per match and notching five shutouts. She owns school records for career save percentage (.841) and goals against average (0.99) and is second in school history in wins (31) and shutouts (14).
