Local roundup: Muncy baseball has huge win vs. co-HAC-III champ Warrior Run

Muncy produced its biggest win of the last two seasons and did so in dramatic fashion Tuesday, walking off with a 2-1, eight-inning win against co-HAC-III champion Warrior Run. Graden Dohl threw six dominant, scoreless innings of baseball, striking out nine, before smashing a walk-off single off the left field fence, scoring Vinny Finochiaro with the winning run.

Finochiaro led off the inning when he was hit by a pitch before moving to second on Brody Goss’s bunt and scoring when Dohl drilled his 1-1 pitch off the fence.

Before winning the game with his bat, Dohl saved it with his arm, working out of a bases loaded, no-out jam by striking out the heart of Warrior Run’s lineup in order. Jameson Barlow also had a big day for Muncy (10-7), going 3 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI. Finochiaro also had a hit and Muncy tied, 1-1 in the fifth inning on Barlow’s RBI double. Kase Snyder combined with Dohl to hold Warrior Run scoreless after it had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Cohen Zechman’s triple and Collin Brant’s RBI single.

Wellsboro earned a 10-5 win against a talented Hughesville baseball team thanks to collecting 14 hits. The Green Hornets scored three runs in the third to lead 3-0 before adding two in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Coen Tennis had a monster game for the Green Hornets, going 4 for 4 with three triples, an RBI and scoring two runs. Gage Baltzley (2 for 4, RBI), Gabe Cuneo (2 for 3, two RBIs, run, walk), Griffin Morral (2 for 4, two RBIs, two runs, walk), Reed Richardson (2 for 4, run) and Marek Mascho (1 for 5, two RBIs, run) all collected doubles.

Hughesville was led by Jed Abernatha (2 for 4, run) and Wyatt Fogleman (2 for 3, double, run) while Dylan McConnell went 1 for 2 with a double and a team-high three RBIs.

St. John Neumann was limited to just two singles — one each by Maverick Dunkleberger (1 for 3) and Clark Bower (1 for 1) as the Golden Knights fell at home to Towanda, 12-0, in five innings. Towanda led 2-0 after the first inning, but an eight-run third inning helped propel the Black Knights.

• Emma Vollman went 3 for 3 with an RBI double and Ashlyn Robinson both hit and pitched well as Williamsport completed a perfect HAC-I season, defeating Selinsgrove, 6-1. Vollman ignited a two-run first inning rally which put Williamsport (15-3, 10-0) ahead to stay and Robinson was 2 for 2, while throwing a five-hitter which included seven strikeouts and no walks. The Millionaires scored three more runs in the fifth inning, going up, 5-0.

Aubrey Eiler and Camdyn Weaver were a two-player wrecking machine against Jersey Shore, going a combined 8 for 8 with six RBIs as Central Mountain won, 10-2. Weaver, who threw a five-hitter with seven strikeouts, went 3 for 3 with a triple, two doubles and five RBIs. Eiler was 5 for 5 with a triple, three runs and an RBI. The Wildcats struck quick, scoring four first inning runs. Dani Miller had a big day for Jersey Shore (12-5), going 3 for 4 with two triples and an RBI.

Mackenzie Litchard threw a five-hitter which included 10 strikeouts, while also going 2 for 3 as Warrior Run closed its regular season with an 8-3 win at Montgomery. Nine Defenders produced 14 hits and Ella Printzenhoff, Maura Woland, Makenzie Heffer and Mya Evans all had two. Woland and Cait Waltman (double) drove in two runs. Chloe Gordner had two hits for Montgomery, while Ramona Kroll, Brooke Dietrich and Ava Hartman all had hits and RBIs.

Hughesville made an impressive comeback against Central Columbia, but a 9-0 first inning deficit was too much to overcome in an 11-7 loss. Maddie Smith provided six dominant innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out 10. She also went 3 for 4 with a triple, double and two runs. Addy Knight scored three times, going 1 for 2 with two walks and Laurel Bauman and Ashlynn Barlett both had RBI hits.

Ady Frantz struck out 11 batters in her 4 1/3 innings of work in the circle, but Williamson took advantage of 10 total walks between Frantz (eight) and Gena Fleming to beat the Green Hornets, 6-5.

Williamson had just four hits, all of which were singles. Williamson scored four runs in the fifth inning. The Green Hornets scored two runs in the seventh inning as Harleigh Cleveland scored and Haylie Smitih scored, but a strikeout ended the game with Wellsboro trailing by a run.

Frantz went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs and Haylie Smith had a 2 for 3 performance with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.
