ELIZABETHTOWN — Freshman Sage Smeltz had two hits in the first game and sophomore Jocelyn McCracken, a Jersey Shore graduate, had two in the second to lead the Lycoming College softball team, which fell to Elizabethtown College, 4-1 and 5-2, in a Landmark Conference doubleheader on Saturday.

Lycoming took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the second game, but Elizabethtown (22-18 overall, 7-9 Landmark) rallied with two fourth-inning runs to tie it and three sixth-inning runs to take the win.

Senior Hailee Sobieski hit a double in the second game, finishing her career as a .299 hitter (105 for 351) with 38 runs, 19 doubles and 54 RBI. Senior Claire Alexander, a South Williamsport graduate, finished her career with 123 hits, sixth in school history, 88 runs, second in school history, and a school-record 37 stolen bases.

Sophomore Ashley Forrest doubled to lead off the second before McCracken delivered a single and then stole second to put runners on second and third to set up Smeltz, who delivered a single up the middle to score the first run. A sac fly from junior Kendall McAnelly, a Williamsport graduate, allowed the second run to score.

McCracken finished 2 for 3 with a run to lead Lycoming’s six-hit attack in the game. McAnelly (3-3) pitched five innings, allowing nine hits and five runs.

Sarah Birner led the Blue Jays, going 3-for-3 with two runs and Morgan Carr was 2-for-2 with a run.

Smeltz was 2 for 2 in the first game and she tossed a complete-game seven-hitter, as well, but a three-run homer from Elizabethtown’s Jess Dunn helped it to a 4-1 win.

The Blue Jays scored in the second before adding three off Dunn’s homer in the fourth. The Warriors responded in the sixth, when Smeltz singled to right before being substituted for first-year Gabrielle VonStein as a pinch-runner. She moved to second on a sac bunt, third on a passed ball and scored on an error.

Julia Bergen (4-3) pitched 5 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two hits in the win for the Blue Jays.

The Warriors finished 10-20 overall and 5-11 in the Landmark Conference.
