Mifflinburg’s Botts, Hughesville’s Rainey set to coach D4 all-star game
Mifflinburg’s Cody Botts and Hughesville’s Howard Rainey will man the helms as coaches of this year’s District 4 North-South All-Star game. Botts will be the head coach of the South team while Rainey will lead the North.
This year’s all-star game takes place on Friday, June 19 at Milton’s Alumni Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. At halftime the Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame Class of 2026 will be enshrined.
Botts began his coaching career at Lewisburg in 2020 as an assistant offensive line coach then moved to Susquehann University in the 2021 season, coaching offensive line and tight ends. Botts started at Mifflinburg in 2022 and coached the offensive line and was the run game coordinator under former head coach Jason Dressler for two years before taking over the helm in 2024.
In two years Botts has compiled a 14-10 record, highlighted by a 10-3 season in 2025 with a District 4 Class AAA championship.
Rainey’s coaching career started in 1991 at Jersey Shore the their junior high defensive coordinator. He stayed in that role until 1998 when he moved to the Varsity level and did the same role from 1998-2000. Rainey volunteered from 2000-09 in various roles for the Bulldogs before taking over as their junior high offensive coordinator in 2009. From 2010-2021, Rainey was the junior high coach at Loyalsock, where he had four undefeated season.
Rainey took over as the coach of the Spartans in 2021, where he and his staff took a team that won three games in three years to qualifying for the District 4 playoffs in three of his five seasons.
Joining Botts on the South coaching staff is Mifflinburg’s Anthony Threet, Seth Hicks, Jeff Wagner and Tom Barfitt, and Milton’s Jake Barrett and Isaiah Hicks.
Joining Rainey on the North coaching staff is Boyd Hartman, Brandon Kinney, Steve Shrawder, Ken Tallman, Ben Kranz, Luke Kaiser and Matt Connors, all of Hughesville.
