Shore’s McCray wins two events as Bulldogs host Shikellamy in home dual meet

JERSEY SHORE — Jersey Shore hosted a dual meet with Shikellamy on Tuesday afternoon, the final meet before Saturday’s PHAC Championships get underway at Bloomsburg. Shikellamy’s girls team beat Jersey Shore, 83-66, and and the Braves’ boys team beat the Bulldogs, 120-30.

Jersey Shore’s Khani McCray picked up two individual wins in boys competition and was Jersey Shore’s only athlete in boys competition to win two events.

McCray jumped 39 feet, 0 1/2 inches to win the triple jump by more than three feet and had a high jump win by clearing 5-10. McCray in total had three top-3 finishes as he was a third-place finisher in the long jump with a distance of 18-9 1/2.

The only other Shore first-place winners on the boys side were Samuel Davis, who ran 10:58.90 to earn a win in the 3,200, and Dekin McDermott, who ran 54.70 to win the 400.

Davis earned a second-place finish in the 1,600 when he finished in 4:57.70, behind only Shikellamy’s Braylon Chestnut’s 4:49.80. Braylen Guerrero cleared 19-1 1/2 in the long jump to take second for the Bulldogs as Shikellamy’s Tyrell Reese won (19-8 1/4).

Jersey Shore’s Landon Armbruster took third place in the 300 hurdles in 45.60, Benjamin Loell was third in the 3,200 in 11:55.10 and Benjamin Burkhart was third in the triple jump (34-8).

Elizabeth Hollick, Nina Steppe and Alison Bilbay all took home first-place finishes on the girls side for the Bulldogs.

Hollick won the 300 hurdles by running 48.20 as Jersey Shore went 1-2-3 in the event. Chloe Corson was second (51.70) and Molly Dalton (58.10) was third. Hollick finished the day with three top-3 finishes. Hollick was second in the 100 hurdlesin 17.40, behind only Shikellamy’s Mya Bronowicz (16.80) and Hollick took second in the high jump by clearing 4-10 as Kelsey Deitrich of Shikellamy won with a height of 4-10, winning via less misses.

Steppe threw 32-1 to win the shot put, winning by half an inch. In the discus, Bilbay won with a throw of 101-3, the only competitor to break 100 feet.

Jersey Shore had a number of athletes take second or third as well.

In the 1,600, Jersey Shore’s Taylor Heaton finished in 8:00.00 for second. Jersey Shore’s Azelyn Dincher took second in the 800 in 2:28.40 and Vivian Hale was a second-place finisher in the 200 with a time of 28.90. In the 3,200 Shore’s Lucy Engel ran a 14:00.10 for second place.

The Bulldogs’ Elliana Herr was second in the triple jump with a distance of 31-2 3/4 while Dincher took second in the pole vault (8-6). Bella Hensler also was a second-place finisher as she threw 89-0 to take second in the javelin behind Shikellamy’s Lily Persing (101-0 1/2).

The Bulldogs’ Zoe Johnson as third in the 1,600 in 8:51.30, Rayleigh Delaney took third in the 800 in 3:00.50 and Lilymae Gentzyel took third in the 200 in 31.00.

Jersey Shore’s Vivian Hale and Leena Loomis tied for third in the high jump with a height of 4-6, Engel took third in the pole vault by clearing 8-6 and Bilbay was third in the shot put by throwing 29-10 1/2. Shore’s Sienna Bowlan was also a third-place finisher, doing so in the discus with a mark of 90-5.
