Loyalsock edged Williamsport in a District 12 major softball tournament opener, 6-2, to advance to the quarterfinals.

Loyalsock faces Montoursville in that winners’ bracket quarterfinal game on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. while Williamsport drops into the elimination bracket and faces Jersey Shore/GSV, a 9-3 loser to Keystone.

A two-RBI single by Evie McClain helped break the game open in the second inning for a 3-0 lead and Loyalsock never let Williamspory rally. Loyalsock made it a 6-0 lead in the third with another three-run performance which was made possibly in large part thanks to a trio of walks.

Williamsport’s Jacera Williams had a triple in the fourth inning to break the scoreless half for Williamsport and cut the deficit to 6-1 and Williamsport added another run in the fifth for a 6-2 deficit.

Montoursville cruised to a lopsided 20-2 win against Montgomery at Loyalsock on Monday in the District 12 tournament to advance. The loss drops Montgomery into the elimination bracket. Montoursville held off Montgomery late to put the mercy rule into effect and seal the win.

Individual statistics were not made available for either game.
