Outdoors community calendar for week of June 16
AUDUBON EVENT: SUGAR VALLEY BIRD WALK
WHERE: Sugar Valley (meet at Pine Creek Rail Trail in Jersey Shore)
WHEN: Thursday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m.
NOTES: We will meet at the Pine Creek Rail Trail parking area in Jersey Shore to carpool to an Amish farm, joining a family which has had unusual success in having mertins return each to their four condominiums.

INSECT SAFARI
WHERE: Little Pine State Park and Hyner Run State Park
WHEN: Friday, June 19 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
NOTES: Join the park naturalist and learn some of the characteristics of an insect and also go on an insect safari to look for different insects and their cousins. There will be a craft.
This program is intended for children, but anyone is free to attend. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines.
Those interested in the Little Pine program should meet at the amphitheater. Those interested in the Hyner Run program should meet at the pool.
WORLD OF BATS
WHERE: Hyner Run State Park and Little Pine State Park
WHEN: Friday, June 26 at 8:30 p.m. (Hyner Run) and Saturday, June 27 at 8:30 p.m. (Little Pine)
NOTES: This program will be focusing on some of the bats’ adaptations, myths about bats, and a fungus that is threatening their population in the “World of Bats.” There will also be a bat count, weather permitting.
All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate.
The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines.
Those interested in the Hyner Run program should meet at the amphitheater by the pool. Those interested in the Little Pine program should meet at the amphitheater.
ROCKING IT AT HYNER
WHERE: Hyner Run State Park
WHEN: Friday, June 26 at 3:30 p.m.
NOTES: Join the park naturalist in “Rocking it at Hyner” to learn about and to explore some of the rocks found at Hyner Run. There will also be a craft. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate.
The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines.
Those interested should meet beside the pool.
ARCHERY
WHERE: Little Pine State Park
WHEN: Saturday, June 27 at 3:30 p.m.
NOTES: Join the park educator and get an intro course in archery basics. All equipment will be provided.
All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate.
The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines.
Those interested should meet at the archery range at the northern part of the park.
HAPPENINGS AT HYNER
WHERE: Hyner Run State Park
WHEN: Saturday, July 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
NOTES: At Hyner Run State Park on July 18, join the park naturalist and guest speakers for a good late morning and afternoon of local history. There will be five program sdealing with the local history of the area:
• “CCC of Clinton County” is a program presented by Rich Wykoff, education and outreach administrator for Lumber Heritage Region, and will be a scavenger hunt-like approach to learning about the CCC Camp in Hyner Run State Park and others.
• “General history” of the Area is a program presented by Lou Bernard, overseer of adult services at Ross Library and local historian, and will be some of the interesting stories and folklore around the Hyner area.
• “Paper making” is a program presented by Lin Greenaway, forester of the Sproul State Forest, and will get into some quick history of paper making in the area while also demonstrating how to make paper now.
• “Logging” is a program presented by Jennifer Haines, museum education at Pennsylvania Logging Museum, and will be about the logging industry in the area and some of the tools used.
• “Branding Tree Cookies” is a program presented by Hyner Run campground hosts and will consist of branding a tree cookie for a memento to take home.
• “Artifacts” is a program presented by Rich Gulyas, environmental education specialist at Mount Pisgah State Park.
Feel free to come to all programs, or go to some and take a dip in the pool. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate in the program.

All the programs will be held in the lawn near the amphitheater by the pool. Some may be moved to Pavilion No. 1 in the case of rain.
