MILL HALL — Ryan Smith returned to victory lane at the one-third mile Clinton County oval this past weekend.

“I really like coming here,” said Smith in victory lane. “This track really fits my driving style.”

It was the third win of his career at Clinton County. AJ Hoffman won an exciting pro stock feature event. Mason McAndrew won the 270 micros and Jimmy Moyer of Lewistown won the four cylinder main event.

Garrett Bard and Michael Baurer started to the front row of the 30-lap 410 sprint car main event. At the drop of the green flag, Bard’s car stood up with an impressive wheelie down the front stretch. He backed out of it, mid-way down the front stretch, allowing four cars to get by him as the field raced into turn one. Baurer led the first three laps, as third place starter Ryan Smith powered into the lead.

The red flag waved on lap five, when Bard car got loose exiting the fourth turn, he hit the wall and rolled on the front stretch. Bard was OK. By the completion of lap 10, Smith was leading Bauer, Carmen Perigo Jr., Mike Thompson and Matt Tebbs of Cogan Station.

On lap 13, Thompson took the third position away from Perigo. Thompson began to challenge Bauer for the second position and was able to secure it by the completion of lap seventeen. With 20 laps in the books, Smith was leading Thompson, Baurer, Perigo and Tebbs. Smith eventually caught the tail of the field and began to weave his way through lapped traffic.

Smith extended his lead and at the finish line established a 2.409 second advantage of Thompson and Baurer. Perigo finished fourth followed by Tebbs, making his debut start in a 410 sprint car. Sixth through tenth were Billy Dietrich, Chris Frank, Spencer Burley, Tyler Esh and Dale Schweikart of Linden.

Lou Belise of Montgomery and Mike Gray of Hughesville started on the front row of the pro stock feature event. Belise led the first lap, then AJ Hoffman of Richfield took the lead. Heat race winners Cory Long and AY Schilling were offered a challenge to start on the rear of the field, and if they won the feature would receive more than $1,000 in bonus money.

Both drivers accepted with the fans keeping an eye on their progress. By lap four, Schilling worked his way into the top five. By the halfway mark of the race, Hoffman was leading Schilling, Marc Bitler, Cory Long and Belise.

The caution came out on lap 13, when Jason Koch’s car stopped on the speedway. This gave Schilling an opportunity to challenge Hoffman on the restart. Hoffman quickly accelerated, keeping Schilling at bay in the runner up spot.

With five laps remaining it became a three car race as Hoffman was leading Schilling and Long. Schilling and Long battled for second, as Hoffman focused on hitting his marks, knowing the other two drivers had a lot on the line. Long passed Schilling with two laps remaining but could not close in on Hoffman who won by 1.756 seconds.

Schilling was third followed by Marc Bitler and Ronald Ergott III.

Jillian Maurer and Cory Stabley led the field to the green flag of the 270 micro feature. By the completion of the first lap fourth place starter Mac Wert was in the lead. A lap five caution occurred involving a four car crash on the front stretch. Following that restart Zac Glass took second, with Maurer in third, McAndrew in fourth and Garrison Zook in fifth. On lap number 8, McAndrew took the second position and would chase down Wert to take the lead on lap number twelve. McAndrew continued to lead the remaining laps for the second victory of the season.

Andrew Ricketss started on the pole and took the lead at the drop of the green flag in the four cylinder feature. Fifth place starter Jimmy Moyer quickly moved up through the field and was chasing Ricketts. By lap six, Moyer caught and passed Ricketts on lap six.

Seventh-place starter Shane Seville raced into the third spot by lap eight. Moyer led the remaining laps for the victory over Ricketts, Seville, Larry Beachel and Cody Maines.
