Warrior Run baseball wins program’s first state playoff game

DUNMORE — Griff Harrington made a state tournament debut Warrior Run fans will never forget Monday afternoon at Marywood University. The senior right-hander threw a no-hitter against District 2 champion Dunmore and Warrior Run blanked the Bucks, 1-0, for the program’s first state tournament victory. Harrington also hit a first-inning RBI double which scored Cohen Zechman with the game’s lone run as the Defenders (18-6) earned a spot in Thursday’s quarterfinals against Bermudian Springs.

Harrington won his eighth start and improve to 3-1 this postseason. He also threw a one-hit shutout in the district semifinals against Wellsboro. He struck out eight and worked around six walks with the defense making no errors. Jackson Bowers went 2 for 2 and Warrior Run received a big lift with senior Landon Tillson playing for the first time in a month. He went 1 for 3 as the Defenders reached the quarterfinals for the first time.
