Crosscutters beat State College on the road Friday

With the race for the MLB Draft League first-half championship coming down to the wire, the Williamsport Crosscuters earned another high-scoring victory over State College, defeating the Spikes on Friday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, 10-6.
The debuting James McCoy led the Cutters offense with a 3 for 4 night that included a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Kyle Schupmann, Loyalsock graduate Nick Barone and Addison Smith all recorded multi-hit nights for Williamsport with Barone and Smith also adding multiple RBIs.
Jacob Limas earned his third win of the season, improving to 3-1 after 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief. Matthew Mariano earned his first save in his third appearance of the year, throwing the final 1 1/3 innings allowing just one hit and striking one out. In total, Williamsport pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts.
With the win and Trenton’s second loss in a row at Aberdeen, Williamsport’s magic number to clinch the first-half title falls to just one with the chance to clinch on Saturday afternoon at Bowman Field against State College.
