Cutters drop second straight one-score game to Mahoning Valley

For the second time in as many nights, the Williamsport Crosscutters were handed a loss in the bottom of the ninth inning by the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, this time by the final score of 4-3 on Friday night at Credit Union Field at Eastwood.
Jack Kail's bat led the Cutters’ offense, twice scoring the tying run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 2-2 and an RBI single in the eighth to make it 3-3. Nick Barone accounted for the first run for the Cutters with an RBI triple in the sixth, his second triple of the season. James McCoy accounted for two of the three Williamsport runs, scoring on Barone's triple and Kail's single. Barone scored the other run for Williamsport, coming on Kail's sacrifice fly.
Josh Willitts got the start for Williamsport, going the first five innings in a no decision after allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Brody Roe went the next two innings, allowing one Scrappers run on two hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Davin Pollard took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season, after allowing the winning run in the ninth on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts over the final 1 2/3 innings of the game.
Williamsport returns home to Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field on Saturday to open a fivegame, six day homestand starting with a two-game weekend series against the Trenton Thunder. First pitch on Saturday to open the series is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and features an appearance by former Cutter and Phillies All-Star Domonic Brown, Post-Game Fireworks and Sullivan County Night.
