Milton majors suffer elimination loss to Hollidaysburg, end summer at states

PITTSTON -- Milton's outstanding summer came to an unfortunate end on Wednesday afternoon, but the Milton major baseball team still had plenty to be proud of this summer.
Milton suffered a tough 9-5 loss in Wednesday's elimination game at 11 a.m. The game was a postponement from Tuesday due to rain.
Milton was held hitless between the second and fifth innings as Hollidaysburg increased its lead thanks to a four-run inning later in the game.
A four-run inning helped Hollidaysburg take a 9-3 lead over Milton.
Much like it did against its opponents in the Section 3 tournament after falling into the elimination bracket, Milton battled yet again on Wednesday.
In the sixth inning facing a six-run deficit, Jordan Brown and Weston Sumner connected on back-to-back home runs to cut the deficit to four runs. However a pitching change by Hollidaysburg at that point would end the game, as Milton wouldn't be able to drive in any runs from there to keep its postseason run going this summer.
This was the first time Milton's major baeball team reached the state tournament since 2001, the last time the league won a Section 3 title.
Milton suffered a 5-4 loss to Blue Mountain to open the state tournament before falling into the elimination bracket. Milton would have had to win six games in five days in the elimination bracket if it wanted to reach regionals.
Hollidaysburg advances to face either Newtown or Back Mountain.
East Side and Blue Mountain were in the winners' bracket semifinals, as were Newtown and Back Mountain.
