Montoursville 9-11s defeat Keystone to advance to Monday’s district final

Montoursville pitchers and a tremendous defense shut down the vaunted Keystone offense for a 6-4 win in the District 12 9-11 division winners’ bracket final. The win sends Montoursville to the championship game on Monday evening at Volunteer Stadium against the Winner of Sunday’s losers’ bracket final between Keystone and Loyalsock.Montoursville struck first in the top of the first inning as Daniel Christman was safe on a Keystone error, Reid Francis hit a line drive to left and Rance Bowes brought Christman home on another line drive to centerfield. Francis moved to third and then scored on a wild pitch. Bowes came home on a fielder’s choice by Emick.

Keystone responded in the bottom of the first as Herman walked after an out, Henley was hit by a pitch, Ferrar walked and then Herman scored on a fielder’s choice by Leone and Henlet scored on a pass ball.

Montoursville second inning saw Winter and James Frey get hit by pitches, Matthew Herb sacrificed them to second and third and Winter scored on a fielder’s choice.

In the fourth inning, Montoursville’s Eli Nolan got on base thanks to a fielders’ choice, then Cortland Carey walked, both runners advance a base before Chase Wheeland’ bloop double down the left field line score both of them.

In the fifth inning, Keystone’s saw a runner reach thanks to an error before a walk and single brought in a run. In the sixth inning, another single and error put two runners on before a single brought in Keystone’s final run as an inducted groundout and strikeout ended the game.

This game could have had a different outcome if not for the play of centerfielder Rance Bowes and right fielder Cortland Carey, as the both made spectacular plays for Montoursville against Keystone.
