SCHUYLKILL HAVEN -- Logan McGinn of South Williamsport, 14, continued his impressive stretch of competitive golf by a Pennsylvania junior by firing a 2-under par 70 to finish tied for third at the Pennsylvania Open Championship qualifier at Schuylkill Country Club.
McGinn's round secured his place in the Pennsylvania Open Championship next month at Laurel Valley Golf Club, where he will compete against many of the state's top professional and amateur golfers.
The performance adds another milestone to an already remarkable season for McGinn. Despite battling an uncharacteristically difficult day off the dee, the Williamsport Country Club member showcased a complete game which has made him one of the nation's top rising junior players.
According to Clippd performance analytics, McGinn hit 83% of the greens in regulation, gained strokes on the field with his approach pray (+0.69), short game (+0.22) and putting (+1.66) while rolling in birdie putts from 25, 15 and 13 feet. He carded four birdies, 12 pars, and just two bogeys over his bogey-free closing stretch of the back nine to finish at 2-under.
"Logan proved once again that championship golf isn't about having every part of your game working perfectly," Logan's father Paul McGinn said. "His driver wasn't at its best, but he stayed patient, trusted his iron play, short game and putting and still found a way to finish near the top of a very strong field. That's a sign of maturity that's exciting to see."
McGinn this year has won the Philadelphia Boy's PGA Junior Championship to qualify for the National Junior PGA Championship, became the youngest player ever to qualify for the Pennsylvania Amateur Championship, earned a spot in the U.S. Junior Amateur Champions, earned a spot in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship and finished runner-up at an AJGA event after rounds of 65, 65 and 70 (minus 16).
He qualified for the prestigious Patterson Cup as well, one of the Golf Association of Philadelphia's premier amateur championships.
McGinn's latest result also provides momentum as he prepares to compete next week in the Junior PGA Championship, one of the nation's most prestigious junior golf events, featuring many of the top-ranked junior golfers in the country.
