West End beat Mifflin County and Lackawanna in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon to secure a berth into Monday’s Babe Ruth Mid-Atlantic 13-16-year-old championship game.
The title game is at 7 p.m. at Logue Field against Mifflin County, the two top seeds from pool play.
Against Lackawanna, West End secured a 14-1 win and beat Mifflin County in the first game, 11-7.
Collin Brandt collected three hits in three at bats with a double in the third inning and two singles.
West End scored eight runs in the third inning on the way to the win. An error scored a run, Landynn Bieber grounded out for two runs and Liam Lucas tripled to drive in a run. Andrew Yerger had a triple to score a run, Isaac Sparks singled to ring in a run and Brandt doubled to drive in two runs.
In the bottom of the first inning, West End got on the board when James Naughton doubled down the left-field line and Bieber grounded out, bringing two runs in. Sparks had a ground out RBI in the second inning for a 3-0 lead.
Sparks secured the game on the mound by throwing a four hitter with one run, none earned, and four strikeouts over five innings with a walk. Luke Collins surrendered three hits and three runs for Lacakwanna while Tommy Selemba began the game for Lacakwanna and surrendered 12 hits and 11 runs, six earned, over three innings of work.
West End ended the game vs. Lackawanna with 15 hits as James Naughton anD Parker Frederick collected multiple hits. Naughton and Adrian Zayas each stole multiple bases as well. Lacakwanna was led by Jackson Harshbarger, Luke Collins, Carson Eveland and Jane Fine, who each had a hit.
Against Mifflin County in the first game on Sunday, Naughton had three hits in four at bats to propel West End as he had a double in the fourth and two singles.
West End opened the scoring in the first inning with a Jahvon Larosa double, which scored a run. West End added to their lead early in the second when Brandt singled to center and Naughton flew out, each bringing in runs.
Mifflin County flipped the game in the fifth by scoring seven runs on five hits to take the lead, 7-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Liam Shaffer that drove in two runs. A single by Carter Heller of West End gave West End the lead in the bottom of the fifth, 8-7.
On the mound, Anthony Dunlap started for West End and earned the win by allowing six hits and six runs over 4 2/3 innings of work. Max Trawitz took the loss for Mifflin County.
West End had 13 hits vs. Mifflin County, led by Heller (2 for 3, three RBIs) while Brandt and Andrew Yerger had multiple hits and Zayas had two walks. West End also took advantage of six walks.
