West End's 13-16-year-old all-star team picked up another win in the Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament. A day after cruising past Atlantic Shore, 12-0, West End had to battle hard to beat Lackawanna in a close contest, 5-4.
The win moves West End to 2-0 in pool play. West End's 13-16-year-old all-star team completes its final pool play game with a 7 p.m. game at Logue Field on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. against Mifflin County.
In Friday’s win over Lackawanna, the game was tied at four in the bottom of the seventh before Jahvon Larosa drew a walk, scoring one run to help West End win it in walk-off fashion.
In the bottom of the third, Parker Frederick singled to left field following a 6-pitch at-bat, which helped West End tie the game at 2-2. West End then jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after James Naughton singled to center field, and Jahvon Larosa grounded out, each scoring one run. It then committed an error that helped Lackawanna tie it a 4-4.
Carter Heller earned the win for West End from the mound. The righty allowed one hit and two runs (zero earned) over one inning, striking out none and walking one. Andrew Yerger pitched four innings in relief, giving up two hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking one. Liam Lucas opened the game, allowing one hit and two runs over two innings, striking out one and walking two.
Offensively, Jahvon Larosa drove the middle of the lineup, leading West End with two RBIs. James Naughton and Parker Frederick collected two hits each, with Frederick stealing multiple bases alongside Isaac Sparks. West End ran wild on the base paths, piling up eight stolen bases combined.
The 13-16-year-old Mid-Atlantic Regional semifinals are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday with the championship set for 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. The champion advances to the Babe Ruth World Series in Bronson, Missouri.

• At the 14-year-old Babe Ruth Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament in Old Bridge, New Jersey, West End defeated GVAA of New Jersey, 6-0, in Friday's pool play game. In two games played, West End outscored its opponents, 22-4.
The Williamsport-based all-stars have a game against Pine Forge on Saturday evening. West End is 3-0 in pool play competition after receiving a forfeit win over Piedmont, Delaware, who pulled out of the tournament. That game goes down as a 7-0 forfeit win for West End. Originally, West End and Piedmont, Delaware were scheduled to play at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
The 14-year-old Babe Ruth Mid-Atlantic Regional quarterfinals are scheduled for Tuesday afternoon with the semifinals to be played on Wednesday and the championship game set for Thursday.
