MILL HALL -- Tylor Cochran of Hughesville returned to the cockpit of his RaceSaver a few weeks ago, after a several year hiatus. In only his second race appearance, he used his front row starting spot to win on Friday night at the Clinton County Speedway.
Other winners were AJ Hoffman of Richfield in the pro stocks, Garrison Zook in the 270 micro sprints and Garrett Watkins in the four cylinders.
Michael Petock of Bloomsburg and Cochran started on the front row of the 25-lap RaceSaver sprint car feature event. Cochran took the lead at the drop of the green flag with Petock, Fred Arnold of Richfield running in the top three. Jake Gamola, who started eighth started working his way toward the front of the field entering the top three by lap four and overtaking second-place on lap six. With ten laps complete, Cochran was leading Gomola, Petock, Arnold and Jarrett Cavalett.
Timmy Bittner of Beech Creek entered the battle for the top five on lap 12 and advanced into fourth by the completion of 14. Cochran maintained a half-of-a-second lead over Gomola on lap 15, as Petock, Bittner and Arnold were racing in the top five. Bittner made a pass on lap 18 to take the third position.
On lap 23, Cory Stabley of Blanchard spun on the back stretch to bring out the event’s only caution. Cochran got a clean restart forcing Gomola to defend his second-place run from a hard changing Bitner. When the check flag waved, Cochran secured the win over Gomola, Bittner, Petock and Arnold.
Coming into the night for the division championship, Jeffrey Weaver had a one-point lead over Jim Pattock. Weaver's car had engine problems during hot laps forcing him into his backup car for the feature. Upon the start of the feature, Weaver pulled into the pits with engine problems in his second car. Pattock started the race and finished ninth, which secured him his first Clinton County Speedway track championship.
Garrison Zook of Middleburg advanced from his fourth-place starting position to lead the first lap of the 270 micro sprint feature event. Mac Wert, who started sixth, quickly moved into the second position. Jeffrey Weaver of Lock Haven passed Bellefonte's Colton Guiher on lap five to move into the top three. Weaver battled with Wert for several laps and eventually took second place on lap 13.
Zook had a sizable lead and held on for the victory over Weaver, Wert, Guiher and Brice Harro. Wert won his second consecutive 270 micro sprint championship.
AJ Hoffman and Cory Long of Selinsgrove started on the front row of the pro stock feature event. Hoffman jumped into the lead, with Cory Long racing alongside him trying to secure the top spot. The event's only caution came out when Jesse Farley spun in turn two.
As the field came back to full speed, Long challenged Hoffman, as Johnny Bouse added his car into the mix, with Ron Ergott and AY Schilling in the top five. Hoffman continued to lead the field to claim his fifth feature in a row over Long, Bouse, Schilling and Ergott. Cory Long won the season pro stock championship.
Pole-sitter Tyler Watson led the first circuit of the four cylinder feature event. Fourth-place starter Garrett Watkins took the lead by the completion of lap two. Jimmy Moyer of Lewistown, who started sixth, advanced into second place on lap five. By lap seven, Watkins raced through lapped traffic with Moyer and Watson in the top three.
Zak Kline of Mill Hall made a lap-eleven pass to earn the third position. At the finish, Watkins was the winner over Moyer, Kline, Watson and Kolten George. Zak Kline won the four cylinder championship
