The Williamsport Crosscutters completed the three-game sweep of the Aberdeen IronBirds thanks to a 6-1 win on Tuesday at IBEW Local 24 Union Field at Ripken Stadium and, in the process, pushed their winning streak to six in a row.
Two Cutters recorded three-hit nights as Santino Panaro, batting in the leadoff position, was 3 for 5 with two runs scored and James McCoy was 3 for 5 with three RBIs, pushing him to 51 on the year, his 18th double and a run scored. Trey Wells had a multi-hit night as well, going 2 for 4 with an RBI while Jake Zitella picked up his fifth double of the year with an RBI on a 1 for 4 night.
Josh Willits earned the win to move to 4-0 with a six-inning start, allowing just one unearned run on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Matthew Mariano pitched the final three innings and earned his third save, allowing just one baserunner on a hit while striking out three.
Williamsport returns home for the league-wide off day on Wednesday before beginning their final regular-season series, a six-game home-and-home matchup with the State College Spikes. The series gets underway on Thursday at 6:35 in State College before shifting to Bowman Field on Friday.
