The Williamsport Crosscutters dropped their second consecutive game, falling in sudden death to the State College Spikes on Friday night at Bowman Field.
David Case delivered 5 1/3 innings in his ninth start of the season. The lefty allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks, striking out three batters. Matthew Mariano continued his stellar stretch out of the bullpen, giving the Cutters 3 2/3 innings of near perfect relief. Mariano did not allow a hit, surrendering one walk and striking out five.
Williamsport plated two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to erase an early 4-0 deficit. James McCoy (2-5), Jake Zitella (2-3) and Sam DeCarlo (2-3) each recorded multi-hit nights. Trey Wells, Nicholas Romano, Matthew Williams and Chris Stanfield each recorded an RBI for the Cutters in the losing effort.
In sudden death, State College had a walk-off RBI single from Camden Ross, scoring pinch-runner Kyle Singer to give the Spikes the win. The loss drops the Cutters to 3-2.
