Trailing by a run heading into the final two innings, the Williamsport Crosscutters rallied for five runs in the eighth and ninth innings to capture their fifth straight victory, defeating the Aberdeen IronBirds, 7-4, on Monday night at IBEW Local 24 Union Field at Ripken Stadium.
Jack Kail led the Cutters offense on a 2 for 4 night that included his first home run of the season, two RBIs and three runs. Newly minted MLB Draft League and Crosscutters Player of the Week Matthew Williams went 2 for 3 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored. James McCoy also added a multi-hit night, going 2 for 5 with a run scored. AJ Solomon scored twice after entering the game in place of Chris Stanfield, who left the game after being hit by a pitch.
Santino Panaro was 1 for 4 with two RBIs while Nicholas Romano and Nick Barone accounted for an RBI each.
Right-handed pitcher Ryker Walton got the start on the mound and worked the first 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision, allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Tyler Muscar entered to pitch the final 2 1/3 innings and earned his first win of the season, allowing a home run in the ninth, but retiring all the other batters he faced. Neither Walton or Muscar allowed a walk or hit by pitch.
The first-place Crosscutters will look to sweep second-place Aberdeen on Tuesday night.
