Cutters lead wire-to-wire in series-clinching win at Mahoning Valley

Utilizing a two-run first inning and a big six-run eighth inning, the Williamsport Crosscutters defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 8-1 on Sunday afternoon at 7 17 Credit Union Field at Eastwood to take the road series two games to one.
Owen Prince had the only multi-hit ballgame for Williamsport, going 2-for-5 on the day with two runs scored. Williamsport's offense picked up three loud extra-base hits as James McCoy smashed an RBI triple in the first inning while Matthew Williams and Trey Wells both homered in the eighth. Williams would end the day recording four RBI in the victory and it was a two RBI day for Wells.
Bobby Helt dominated in his first start for the Cutters in 2026, allowing just two hits over four innings of work while striking out eight Scrappers in a no-decision. Usual starter David Case made his first appearance out of the bullpen, going the next four innings allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts, picking up his second win of the season to improve to 2-2. Brody Roe closed out the game on the hill in a non-save situation, facing the minimum thanks to a double play, allowing one hit and one strikeout.
Williamsport enjoys a league off-day on Monday before continuing their six-game, seven-day road trip to open a three-game series at the Aberdeen IronBirds on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at IBEW Local 24 Union Field at Ripken Stadium.
