Danny Dietrich finally had a good weekend. It started at Williams Grove on Friday night where he charged from eighth to the win in the 44th annual Jack Gunn Memorial for 410 sprint cars to get the $8,000 win. Dietrich had to pass the nation's most winning driver in the form of Chase Dietz. Logan Rumsey was third followed by Cameron Smith and Freddie Rahmer.
Then on Saturday night at Port Royal, Deitrich parked it in victory lane collecting $20,000 after an intense battle with Chase Dietz over the course of a 30-lap feature event.
Dietrich led his first official lap with just 13 laps remaining as Dietz and Dietrich were slicing their way through lapped traffic, and 2025 track champion Justin Whittall gunning them down as well. The top 3 cars separated from the field and all battling for the win, Dietz would get his car sucked in to the top of the Turn 4 wall with five laps remaining. He would turn the car as hard as he could to peel his machine off ultimately putting himself sideways in front of Justin Whittall who made slight contact with Dietz did not spin out and got straightened back out and kept going staying inside the top 3. Dietrich now would open his lead to over 2 seconds, but after just three more laps, Justin Whittall would end up doing a 360 spin in turns 3 and 4 drawing the yellow flag.
A restart with two laps remaining would close the gap once again between Dietrich and Dietz, but now the 69K of Ryan Smith would enter into the mix. The green flag came back out and Dietz was hanging right with Dietrich right up to the white flag as they entered the first and second corner. Dietrich put some dirty air across the nose wing of the Stehman-owned 23, cutting his momentum and allowing Ryan Smith to pull alongside Dietz for the runner-up spot.
Troy Wagaman would earn the hard charger honors on the night for going plus-12 in the feature event. The next event at Port Royal Speedway will be all late models as the late model Dirt Series comes to town Friday and Saturday for the Rumble by the River headlined with the Saturday finale paying $50,000 to the winner. Thelimited late models will be the support division for both nights of competition. Williams Grove Speedway will host the Billy Kimmel Memorial for 410 sprint cars coming up this Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
