Grand slam hurts Cutters as Aberdeen earns 8-7 win over Williamsport

Despite both out-hitting Aberdeen and scoring a run in all but two innings, the Williamsport Crosscutters were unable to overcome a fourth-inning grand slam and would fall in the series opener to the IronBirds, 8-7, on Tuesday night at IBEW Local 24 Union Field at Ripken Stadium.
Chris Stanfield picked up another three-hit night as he went 3 for 4 with a double, walk and tow runs scored. Nicholas Romano and Matthew Williams also each had a multi-hit night as Romano went 2 for 4 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Williams was 2 for 5 with a double, RBI and run scored. The debuting Georgetown product AJ Solomon was a mid-game substitution and went 1 for 1 with a walk and RBI after replacing Owen Prince, who was 2 for 2 with a run scored. James McCoy and Sam DeCarlo accounted for the rest of the Williamsport scoring with DeCarlo scoring twice on a 1 for 2 night and McCoy scoring once on a 1 for 4 night.
Ryker Walton suffered the loss, falling to 3-2 on the season, allowing seven runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of work. Tyler Muscar, entering with the bases loaded, would give up the game-winning grand slam on his first pitch of relief, but settled in to go the next 3 2/3 innings without allowing another hit, walking one and striking out five. Muscar would be charged for just one run on the grand slam with the rest charged to Walton. Davin Pollard would struggle, only recording one out while walking two. BRody Roe relieved Pollard and recorded two strikeouts to complete the game.
Williamsport continues the road series with the middle game of the set against Aberdeen on Wednesday. The Crosscutters return home on Friday against Mahoning Valley for a series.
