LEWISBURG -- Bucknell field hockey is off to its best start (4-0) since 1984 and goalkeeper Sarah Althouse and forward Bella Notaro have been the horsepower for the Bison’s historic beginning. The Patriot League voters recognized the duo’s performances in Bucknell’s 2-0 weekend by naming Althouse as the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week and Notaro as Patriot League Forward of the Week.
Althouse’s selection marks her fourth goalkeeper of the week. She has now earned one in every season (2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026). This is Notaro’s first weekly honor.
Althouse, the Patriot League Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, dominated proceedings against two explosive squads. Against Quinnipiac, she recorded one save, but using proactive tactics, prevented several dangerous attempts by coming off her line to notch what Bucknell field hockey internally calls preventive saves. Versus undefeated Cornell and their refined aggressive attack, Althouse posted 11 saves against the onslaught of penalty corners and shots. She paired her double-digit save total with denying a Cornell player on a fastbreak opportunity and keeping the Bison’s 2-1 lead intact.
The senior goalkeeper ranks third all-time in Bucknell history in wins (29) and is two more victories away from tying the career record held by Maureen Breslin (1995-98) and Sonja Wettergreen (1999-02).
Notaro scored five points (two goals and one assist) in the victories over Quinnipiac and Cornell. She tallied the game-winning goal against Quinnipiac to break the 1-1 deadlock. The Bison’s main inserter this season, she provided the assist in the first goal versus Cornell. Later in the game, her insurance goal effectively shut the door on the Big Red. The Field Hockey Analyst named Notaro to the 2026 Division I Returners Watchlist and her production has made a reliable projector of the organization.
2026 has been a breakout season for the junior forward. Notaro entered the campaign with a career total of six points (one goal and four assists). She has already surpassed that amount in four games and her reverse flicks launch the ball like a rocket.
Bucknell faces its toughest test to date on Sunday when No. 12 Syracuse enters Graham Field at Holmes Stadium for a showdown.
