By Chris Masse 7 min read

Midd-West at

Warrior Run

Warrior Run is trying to reach 3-0 for a second straight season and finished strong a week ago, scoring the final 14 points in a 42-19 win against Central Mountain. The defense allowed just one touchdown and 168 yards in that game. Rutgers-bound lineman Jackson Albright collected two sacks and Carter Robinson another. Albright has five tackles for loss and Cayden Robinson three.

David Stiner had 1 1/2 sacks in a season-opening win at Muncy as the Defenders overcame five first-half turnovers and did not allow any points off them. Bryson Weigel and Zayas Reynolds have interceptions as well.

The offense has heated up over the last six quarters and displayed excellent balance. Running back Denyn Beachel leads the area in rushing and quarterback Logan Stevenson is third in passing yards. Beachel has gone over 100 yards in both games and Stevenson him, Weigel and Liam Moore for touchdowns against Central Mountain. Moore is is tied for second among area receivers with 10 catches.

Midd-West (1-1) routed CMVT, 66-0 a week ago as quarterback Witten Carter threw for 201 yards and four touchdowns. Four receivers caught touchdowns, with Jacob Acker throwing a fifth, and Mason Fultz hauled in four catches for 127 yards and a two scores. Noah Kratzer ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Warrior Run defeated Midd-West, 48-20 in Week 3 of last year.

Milton at

Mount Carmel

Milton (1-1) played fabulous defense last week, earning its first win and allowing just 62 yards in a 35-0 rout of Hughesville. Senior Jackson Wertz had a big game with four tackles for loss and two sacks. Milton collected six sacks and defensive end Brady O'Rourke had 1 1/2, giving him nine over the past two seasons.

Schuyler Humphrey leads the team in tackles, making 21 through two games, and Wertz and O'Rourke have combined for 8 1/2 tackles for loss. Milton also has forced two fumbles in each game.

Quarterback Kamryn Wilson threw four touchdowns at Hughesville, three to Ja'Cori Brown. Jhemzuel Feliciano is enjoying a breakout season and has caught long touchdowns in both games. Luis Santos set up a touchdown against Bloomsburg with a 78-yard kickoff return.

Mount Carmel (2-0) has entered the Class AAA state rankings and has run the ball at will the first two weeks. The Tornadoes have attempted just five passes, one going for a touchdown, while running for a district-best 979 yards. Jaylen Delaney has excelled as a wide receiver and running back the past two seasons and now is doing so at quarterback, topping 200 yards rushing in both games to lead District 4. Cooper Karycki forms an explosive tandem and has gone over 100 yards each time. They combined for five touchdowns in last week's 47-20 win at Pottsville.

The defense has allowed 259 rushing yards per game but showed a lot of improvement at Pottsville following a 48-41 opening week win against Schuylkill Haven. Kenny Miller had two sacks last week and Lance Glenney picked off a pass.

Wyalusing at Canton

Canton (1-1) is playing its third straight home game after renovations at Cowanesque Valley's new stadium gave it an extra home game in the opener. There, Canton rallied from nine down in the fourth quarter and won, 22-9. It was a positive side for a team which returns a lot of players from last year and that looks to be in the District 4 Class A playoff hunt throughout the season.

Bailey Gardner produced 228 yards and two touchdowns against CV and helps fuel the offense. Sophomore quarterback Owen Moore has thrown touchdowns in both games and also ran for a score against Montgomery a week ago. Monte Whitehead is part of a versatile receiving group and changed the CV game with an 80-yard touchdown catch and run.

Marcus Solomon is a defensive playmaker and had 12 tackles, four for loss, along with two sacks against CV. He added seven more tackles last Friday. Gardner and Rylan Wesneski also had sacks in Canton's victory, while Moore and Aaden Dowling have interceptions these first two weeks.

Wyalusing has won two straight in this series but has one of its smallest rosters in recent memory. The Rams (0-2) have been shutout in consecutive games but showed some promise in the passing game last week. Wiley Trombaugh held his own against a tough Muncy pass rush and Landry Tinna caught four passes for 52 yards.

North Penn-Mansfield at Northwest

North Penn-Mansfield (0-2) is one of the district's youngest teams, so growing pains were expected. The Panthers are playing a third straight 2-0 team tonight, but showed progress a week ago at Towanda. Bentley Chilson returned a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown and Colton Pellett reeled in a 76-yard touchdown from Peyton Greene.

First-time starter Bodhi Nickerson made a game-high 12 tackles in the opener against South Williamsport and freshman Bridger Lehman added seven. Lehman went over 1,000 yards as a running back in junior high last year, so big things could be coming from him as his high school career continues. Pellett has scored seven touchdowns the last three seasons and five have covered 76 or more yards.

Northwest (2-0) looks like one of the district's most improved teams and already has matched last year's win total. The Rangers rallied in the final minute to beat Holy Redeemer in the opener before the defense took centerstage in last week's 23-10 victory against Central Columbia. Northwest has imposed its will up front and run for 580 yards.

Noah Amett sealed victory against Central with a fourth quarter, 76-yard touchdown run. Robby Voyton ran for 106 yards against Redeemer. Linebacker Caleb Ide ignites the defense and has 15 tackles, including 12 solos.

Cowanesque Valley at Athens

CV (0-2) continues an extended road trip as renovations continue on its new stadium. As of now, the Indians will play at least their first six games on the road. Between that and costly injuries to some of the team's best players, it has been a grind thus far, but CV has shown promise.

Both losses have been closer than the score indicates and the Indians held a nine-point fourth quarter lead in the opener at Canton. CV, a 2A playoff qualifier last year, received a big boost at Wellsboro last Friday when standout two-way lineman Stevie Olson returned following a nine-sack sophomore campaign. Versatile Dave Hess also returned after leaving that Canton game with a second half injury.

Hess has totaled 3,367 yards and 41 touchdowns at three different positions the last four years. He ran for 83 yards and a score last week, adding an interception. Cam Stahli also picked off a pass and caught a touchdown from Hess. Justin Schaar had a big defensive game with three sacks and Colton Begley made eight tackles, six solos.

Athens went 9-2 last year, finishing second to Troy in the NTL-I. The Wildcats fought back from a 21-point first half deficit a week ago at Troy, pulling within seven in the fourth quarter before losing, 31-21. Quarterback Connor Davidson is one of the league's top playmakers in all facets. He totaled 2,485 yards and 36 touchdowns last season, throwing for 1,624 yards. He returned a punt 51 yards for a touchdown in a season-opening win against Wyalusing.

Gage Marmor caught two touchdowns in that win and Kade Rowe had five for 78 with a touchdown at Troy. Davidson and Brendan Cooke handle most of the rushing duties with Cooke going for 91 yards and a touchdown on eight carries at Wyalusing. Devin Maxfield returned a fumble for a touchdown at Troy, making it a seven-point game.
