LEWISBURG -- Freshmen Hamish Riddell and Viktor Permyashkin scored their first career goals as Bucknell turned in three in the second half to defeat George Mason, 3-1, on Tuesday night at Emmitt Field.
Bucknell (2-4) trailed 1-0 after a dominant first half by George Mason (1-4-1), but the tables turned as the Bison dominated the second 45 minutes with three goals to show for their effort.
The Bison had hometown connection, as Permyashkin, a Lewisburg native, was assisted by Selinsgrove native Colin Findlay for the third goal.
Riddell helped the Bison equalize through an own goal in the 57th minute of action. He found himself in a dangerous area and fired a shot. His shot tailed just wide, but a Patriots defender put it into his own net trying to clear the shot away.
Riddell then came away with a goal just three minutes later with a stunning, curling effort into the top right corner to put the Bison in front.
Permyashkin then doubled the advantage in the 86th minute on another big strike from the top of the box. The Lewisburg native dribbled into space after Findlay helped win possession, and Permyashkin fired a shot into the bottom left corner.
Bucknell managed just two shots off target in the first half as George Mason dominated possession. The Patriots had seven shots in the first 45 minutes with three shots on target. Thomas Yerbury made both of his two saves in the half, but the Patriots found the breakthrough from Gabin Thomelier.
George Mason earned a free kick in a dangerous area, and James Eliuda played in a second ball that found Thomelier at the back post who tucked in the first goal of the match.
The Patriots continued to control the game, but the Bison were better in possession over the final 15 minutes and saw the half out down 1-0.
