LHU opens PSAC West play with 24-14 win at Gannon

ERIE -- Robert Footman Jr. threw two touchdown passes, Jake Roberts caught both scoring strikes and the Lock Haven football team pulled away in the second half for a 24-14 victory over Gannon on Saturday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium.
With the victory, the Bald Eagles moved to 1-0 in the PSAC West and evened up at 2-2 on the year. Gannon falls to 0-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Haven has won four straight contests vs. Gannon dating back to 2018.
Lock Haven led 10-7 at halftime and extended its advantage to 17-7 in the third quarter after Gannon turned the ball over on a fumble deep in its own territory.
Gannon fumbled at its 17-yard line, and Lock Haven quickly capitalized. Three plays later, Footman Jr. connected with Roberts on an 8-yard touchdown pass with 10:40 remaining in the third quarter to give the Bald Eagles a 17-7 lead.
Gannon answered with a long drive leading to a 9-yard touchdown run with 8:01 remaining, cutting Lock Haven’s lead to 17-14.
The Bald Eagles responded immediately.
Ezequiel Johnson broke loose for a 42-yard run to the Gannon 8-yard line, and three plays later Footman Jr. found Roberts for another 8-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 24-14 with 5:09 to play.
Gannon had one final opportunity, but Lock Haven’s defense forced a turnover on downs with 1:53 remaining. The Bald Eagles took over and attempted to run out the clock before Gannon regained possession with 11 seconds left. Lock Haven’s defense then closed out the victory.
Johnson led Lock Haven’s rushing attack with 86 yards on 11 carries, including the pivotal 42-yard run in the fourth quarter. Footman Jr. added 23 rushing yards.
Footman Jr. completed 20 of 28 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns. Roberts finished with five receptions for 31 yards and two touchdowns, while Jayvon Tucker-Scott led the Bald Eagles with seven catches for 52 yards.
Lock Haven’s defense held Gannon to 76 passing yards and forced two turnovers. Rocco Daugherty led the Bald Eagles with 13 tackles, including one sack, while Troy Miller added eight tackles.
Gannon outgained Lock Haven 293-318 in total offense and ran for 217 yards, but the Bald Eagles finished 4-for-4 in the red zone and converted four of 10 third downs.
