Mikaila Ganoe scored the go-ahead goal off an Ava Eyer assist in the 43rd minute and defending District 4 Class A champion Muncy edged Southern Columbia, 2-1 in a rematch of last year’s district final. Muncy rallied from a 1-0 deficit with Kiki Woodward scoring the equalizer off a Harleigh Miller assist late in the first half. Hailey Ganoe made four saves for Muncy.
Kyaha Bennett scored two first half goals and Montoursville defeated Central Mountain, 3-1. Regan Aguirre opened the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute with an assist from Kinsley Schon. Aguirre then assisted Bennett on a goal a minute later before Bennett made it, 3-0 in the 14th minute with a goal off a penalty kick. Kendall Rathmell scored in the 67th minute for Central Mountain.
Williamsport goalie Valerie Beiter made six saves, helping the Millionaires earn a 0-0 draw at DuBois.
Mackenzie Miller scored off an assist by Olivia Roberts in the first half and Loyalsock’s defense played well en route to a 1-0 win against Jersey Shore. Ava Deknecht had five saves for the Lancers and Kaia Notearp had eight saves for the Bulldogs.
Wellsboro battled Warrior Run tough and came up just shy against the Defenders as Warrior Run won, 1-0. Chloe Bastian scored the lone goal off an assist by Lacey Betz in the second half.
Sullivan County tied Mountain View and fell to Midd-West at the Northeast Bradford tournament. Against Mountain View, Quinn Pennella recorded a hat trick and out-shot Mountain View, 5-4. In the loss to Midd-West, the Griffins gave up four goals as Midd-West out-shot the Griffins, 14-2.
• Loyalsock suffered a 5-1 loss to Midd-West at home in boys soccer. The match was competitive for much of the second half before Midd-West was able to create separation over the final 20 minutes. Loyalsock’s goal came from Isaac Stiger, who was assisted by Aiden Wetzler.
Kason Burrows faced consistent pressure in goal and finished with 12 saves.
Williamsport suffered a 3-0 loss to DuBois, the second loss of the year for the Millionaires. DuBois recorded nine shots to Williamsport’s three. Max Fink recorded four saves, doing everything he could to keep Williamsport in the game.
Warrior Run scored three goals in the first half and added four in the second to defeat Milton, 7-1. The Defenders’ Carter McCormick recorded a hat trick, Ori Kennel scored twice and Gideon Kennel and Ryan Kemock both had a goal.
Wellsboro scored six goals in the second half to cruise past Wyalusing in a rout, 10-0, in NTL competition. RJ Doughtie and Xaiver Lecker both scored twice for the Green Hornets while Cody Tomlinson had a goal and two assists and Colin Fletcher had a goal and assist.
• Wellsboro swept the singles matches and Montgomery the doubles matches as the Hornets prevailed 3-2 Saturday. Amanda Goncalves, Piper Anderegg and Serenity Mosher won straight set singles matches for Wellsboro. Leane Foguet and Lainie Solano, as well as Sophia Snyder and Maddie Hamm won straight set doubles matches for Montgomery.
• Patricio Zapata scored the go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute as Lock Haven’s men’s soccer tream rallied for a 2-1 win against Seton Hill. The Eagles scored twice in six minutes during the second half to erase a 1-0 deficit. Austin Veach tied the game when he redirected a feed from Danny Ogan.
• Ava Daly scored her second goal this season in a 5-1 Lycoming field hockey loss against Catholic. Daly put Lycoming up 1-0, scoring in the eighth minute. Hilary Clark made 12 saves in goal for the Warriors.
• Penn College defeated Penn St. Brandywine, 6-0, in women’s soccer. The Wildcats finished with a 32-1 shot advantage, putting 21 shots on goal while holding the Nittany Lions without a shot on goal. The Wildcats are 5-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 UEC. The Lions dropped to 3-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 UEC.
The Wildcats built a 4-0 halftime lead, starting when Cadence Holmberg scored her first goal of the season as she cleaned up a rebounding shot from Megan Kurian at 13:48. Camryn Lobb added a goal from Lily Persing at 20:06, Kurian scored at 25:51 and Rylee Oliphant finished the first-half scoring at 41:32 with her first goal of the season.
The Lock Haven women's soccer team battled California (Pa.) to a scoreless draw in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division match at Hubert Jack Stadium. Neither team was able to find the back of the net as the Bald Eagles and Vulcans played 90 minutes without a goal.
Lock Haven goalkeeper Devon Mason made three saves to preserve the shutout, including a pair in the first half.
A late goal by the Catholic University of America lifted it to a 1-0 Landmark Conference win over the Lycoming College women’s soccer team.
Catholic (5-2-1, 1-0) scored in the 79th minute, as sophomore keeper Leah Elliott recorded a career-best six saves in goal for the Warriors (4-4, 0-1). Emma Antonetti tallied the lone score of the match, with Reagan O’Mara and Nina Markie notching assists. Keeper Laura Creamer made one save.
• The Lycoming Warriors men’s soccer team went toe-to-toe with the ninth-ranked Catholic University of America, but a goal in the final 30 seconds helped Catholic to a 1-0 Landmark Conference win.
The Warriors (4-4, 0-1) notched three shot attempts late in the second half as they made multiple offensive pushes. The Cardinals scored after an initial shot from Donik Elshani ricocheted off the right post to Alessandro Marquez Zeleya, who punched in the winning goal with 23.8 seconds left on the clock.
Junior goalkeeper Jace Bennett made five saves for the Warriors.
Penn College defeated Penn St. Brandywine, 6-2, in United East Conference action on Saturday. The Wildcats scored three goals in each half and finished with an 18-6 advantage in shots to finish with a season-high six goals in the win.
The Wildcats answered an early Nittany Lion goal when Warrick Beachy scored at 17:15, tying the first half at 1-1. Joshua Hudak put PCT ahead at 29:45 off an Elliott Rattiram assist, and Miller Kahmar added a goal at 40:44. The Wildcats finished the half in front, 3-1.
• The Lock Haven volleyball team soared to a 3-1 road victory over Shippensburg, winning 25-21, 26-24, 14-25, 25-21.
With the victory, the Bald Eagles improved to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC, while also snapping a 10-match losing streak against Shippensburg, dating back to 2021. Shippensburg falls to 9-6 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
Payton Stanton paced the Bald Eagles’ offense with a match-high 17 kills on a .393 hitting percentage, committing just six errors on 28 attempts. Madelyn Mitchell and Gracelynn Wolzen added 10 kills apiece for Lock Haven.
Penn College dropped a pair of volleyball matches at the Lancaster Bible tri-match on Saturday. The Wildcats dropped their United East Conference opener to Lancaster Bible, 3-0, with set scores of 13-25, 16-25, and 9-25, and later lost to Keuka, 3-1, in a nonn-onference tilt.
Against the Chargers, the Wildcats finished with 17 kills while Lancaster Bible totaled 31 kills and hit .284. The Wildcats were within 13-10 after Avani Rainier’s second kill of the opening set, but Lancaster Bible scored the next nine points, leaving PCT unable to recover. Earlier, the Wildcats started with a Taryn Smith service ace and added kills from Lilly Stockum, Peyton Maass, and Claire Roan. Sam Prisco recorded a kill during a three-point Wildcat run late, but Lancaster Bible closed out the set, 25-13.
• Senior Nicole Carroll led the Lock Haven women's cross country team today with a time of 22:44.8, placing 21st overall at the Lock Haven Invitational. Carroll shaved nine seconds from her personal best of 22:53.
Lock Haven placed 15th out of 22 teams at the meet, with Northwood taking the overall team title at the West Branch Cross Country Course.
A few spots behind Carroll was Kaydence Strange with a time of 22:49.8, placing 25th overall. Natalie Jolley (24:05.1, 84th), Addison Farrer (25:08.2, 131st) and River Burrows (25:24.9, 134th) rounded out the top-five for the Bald Eagles.
Penn College placed ninth out of 23 teams in the men’s 8k with 306 points and 17th of 20 in the women’s 6k with 464 points Saturday morning at the Lock Haven Invitational. On the men’s side, Chase Ebeling led the Wildcats with his 45th place finish in 28:01.4. Bryce Martin followed in 50th at 28:05.8, and Logan Bohrer placed 65th in 28:17.4. Thaddeus Stevens’ Tristan Weaver bested the field with a finish time of 26:09.6.
For the women, Elaina Brady paced the Wildcats women in 83rd place with a time of 26:14.9. Amy Rohl finished 115th in 27:31.2, and Kate Butzler placed 120th in 27:47.1. Juniata’s Ella McCrum clocked a field-best 22:15.7.
Senior Regan Jury posted the second-fastest time in program history, notching a 23:14.9 and senior Sydney Taylor posted a career-best time to pace the Lycoming College cross country teams at the Lock Haven Invitational.
Jury led the listed Warriors women's finishers in the 6k with a 39th-place finish in 23:14.9. Jury’s time was the second-fastest in program history. Taylor followed in 142nd at 25:42.5, achieving a career-best time. Freshman Elizabeth Wanner, a Montoursville graduate, also had a career-best time of 28:47.1. Senior Lily Zukosky led the Warriors women's group in the maroon race, finishing 149th at 31:27.1.
Senior Avery Rosan led the Warriors men in the 8k, placing 135th in 30:07.5. Sophomore Jacob Carr finished 198th in 32:59.9, and senior Connor Cornelius, a Jersey Shore graduate, placed 204th in 33:43.0.
• The Lycoming College men’s tennis team won the doubles point and a singles match, falling 5-2, in a non-conference matchup against Misericordia. Misericordia moves to 1-0 while Lycoming falls to 0-4.
In No. 1 doubles, junior Logan Hammond, a Loyalsock graduate, and junior Kayvan Shams, a South Williamsport graduate, breezed to a 6-2 win. Shortly afterwards in No. 2 doubles, senior Thomas Anderson and freshman Teli Bobotas, a Montoursville graduate, ground out a 7-6 (9) victory to take the doubles point.
• Junior Sadie Stahl, a South Williamsport graduate, and freshman Emma Dubnansky claimed victories in the top two singles slots to lead the Lycoming College women’s tennis team in a non-conference matchup against Misericordia. Misericordia moved to 1-0, while Lycoming dropped to 2-4.
In the No. 1 singles slot, Stahl pulled out a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Dubnansky followed that up in the No. 2 singles match by winning a superset tiebreaker, 6-3, 3-6, 10-2.
• The Lycoming College men’s golf team competed in the first round of the Cardinal Fall Classic finishing the first round of the tournament in eighth place at par-72, 6,748-yard Black Rock Golf Course.
The Warriors carded a 325 (37-over-par). Sophomore Tre Lesperance led Lycoming, tying for 26th with a 79 (plus-7), posting a birdie and 11 pars. Sophomore Colby Seiler and senior Will Eberz both tied for 36th at 81 (plus-9), with Seiler posting three birdies and Eberz one. Sophomore Ryan Ault, a Jersey Shore graduate, rounded out the scoring four with an 84 (plus-11).
